Asamoah Gyan, Ghana Black Stars captain has made what can best be described as the most absurd comments ever–stating that “I expect legends to talk about me on issues concerning the national team not people like him (referring to Yaw Amankwah Mireku).”

Yaw Amankwah Mireku, the former Hearts of Oak captain who led his side to conquer Africa in 2000, criticised Asamoah Gyan’s captaincy reign, saying that the 32-year-old should be stripped of the armband and Andre Ayew elevated to the role.

Mireku said Gyan, “due to bad leadership… has dented the image of the national team.”

Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan is taking a page from the John Dramani Mahama playbook by claiming that no one can criticise him unless they are legends of Ghanaian football.

In an interview with Angel Fm in Accra, Gyan said Mireku was a nobody who had achieved nothing, therefore he had no standing to criticise him and he felt he was using him to generate attention.
