Today I was alerted by a friend of a video circulating round social media. Apparently the video was of a certain well known lady having intercourse with her then boyfriend. Now, a few days to her wedding, the begrudged ex-boyfriend decided to release their very private affairs to the public. I can’t imagine what the lady must be feeling now.
Often times, when we are in a relationship with someone we go the extra mile for our partners just to make them happy, throwing caution to the wind. Recently it has become very common to see leaked nekkid pictures and videos of girls performing acts they would rather not want us to see. Surely, these pictures were not meant for public consumption but for whatever reasons they end up being saved on the phones of every Kwame and Kojo for their viewing/mocking pleasures.
Girls who have gone through this unfortunate experience go through a lot of humiliation, especially in Ghana since the family name is a much protected commodity. Just imagine what that Uncle of yours who you haven’t seen in 10 years will say to you should you be in such a situation.
In my first year at university, a girl on my floor was affected by this same leakages, and the shame and humiliation was so bad that she had to quit school and relocate to another country all together. What makes the situation even more terrible is that due to the nature of the internet, the pictures remain there forever. Now imagine a prospective employer typing up your name in google only to see your nekkid pictures. What a shame!
When it comes to this issue, I personally put the blame solely on the supposed boyfriends who leaked the pictures. Guys who do that can easily commit murder in my books, and I thank God none has crossed my path. Yes, some people argue that it is always up to the girl to protect her dignity, but I believe that in a lot of instances, we are override with emotions and we fail to think about the consequences of some of our actions. After all, the pictures were sent because these girls trusted the receivers.
