First of all, I would advise rising dancehall artiste-Kaaki to consider looking for a new manager—because Jam Master Jay seems to know little about artiste management or lacks the needed international exposure on the subject matter.
According to various online reports, Jam Master Jay-a Ghanaian sound engineer who doubles as the manager of Kaaki stated on Starr Fm that, the manner in which Ghanaian journalists and bloggers report or sought after negative stories on Ghanaian artistes kills the latter’s career—and he even cited Raquel as an example.
There’s no logical correlation whatsoever between the reporting of negative stories about an artiste and career stagnation or death; but surely there is a clear relationship between non hard work and lack of career growth.
So that you would realize the ridiculousness of Jam Master Jay’s assertion, think about how many negative stories (some factual, many false) that the western media (both online and offline) throw out each day about leading world artistes like Rihanna, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Kanye West and the others…
The question is; are their careers dead? In fact, if anything at all, these people continue to get better and stronger—and their careers continue to flourish in the face of all the negativity.
I have for many years been confused about what some people like Jam Master Jay term as negative stories—because, if Raquel decides not to wear a ‘dross’, following which she puts her entire coochie on display; what is a journalist or blogger’s crime of negativity if he or she reports or takes interest in this occurrence?
When you monitor the sort of photos some of our Ghanaian celebrities post, the first thing you ask yourself is; are they glamour or adult stars or do they really do what they say they do for a living? Considering Raquel’s scandelous past and her attempt to rebuild her image and career, you would expect … Read more
For some of us, that silly incident killed Raquels career which was neatly picking up at the time—and since then, she has been struggling for that big come back.
The truth is, the Ghanaian music industry is not female friendly—and therefore, if a female artiste screws up, bouncing back becomes impossible.
Excuses such as she forgot she was not wearing an underwear—and all manner of absurd statements to redeem the situation worsened things for her.
During a recent interview on E.TV, Raquel who has not given up on music—currently promoting her new single, opened up about what happened and the huge consequence she faced…
She started by saying, “Things happen and people think you did them deliberately”
“Because, these things happen and continue to affect one for a long time. I mean everyone knows what happened to me years back, long story short, That year, I was on every single show and this was the last show of the year, and I decided to work with a new designer, And I was so bent on appearing on stage with that dress but the lights had gone off and she was still working on the dress. It was made of silk and she hadn’t put in the other layers and stuff. Because when an item is silk, you have to put a lining underneath it to prevent people from seeing through it.”
Menaye Donkor rocked a simple but classy Alexander McQueen dress for The Foundation for AIDS Research after party and we love it. When it comes to fashion, Menaye Donkor never gets it wrong—another reason why we just can’t give up on her.
