President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered his 1st State Of The Nation Address today in an august ceremony graced by all high profile political protocols Ghana has but certainly without the immediate past President.

Otiko Djaba Approved As Minority Abstains From Vote In Protest

The majority in Parliament approved the minister designate for Gender, Otiko Djaba, Tuesday night despite the minority abstaining from the vote in protest.

The NDC claimed the candidate was not qualified due to some inflammatory comments she passed against former President Mahama as well as not doing her national service, but the majority brushed aside those concerns.

The Minority NDC of Parliament has refused to assent Otiko Afisa Djaba as Minister For Gender, Children and Social Protection, following her demeanor during her vetting and her void of not pursuing National Service.

ClassFmonline has noted Alhassan Suhuyini, MP of Tamale North for saying that “If she cannot demonstrate her ability to contain her mother no matter how much of a difference exists between them, then you shouldn’t be hopeful that she will have any care of thoughts for any vulnerable person who is aged”.

However, after the Vetting Committee as a whole recommended Ms Djaba and five other vetted appointees for Parliamentary approval, the house on Friday has affirmed the other five nominees being Akoto Osei, Daniel Botchway, Samuel Atta Akyea, Ignatius Baffuor Awiah and John Peter Amewu to be Ministers, eliminating Otiko Djaba on grounds of house orders.

Amidst all the controversies and the protestations by the Minority in parliament against 5 Designated Ministers not to be approved, the house with NPP’s resounding majority has approved all vetted 13 nominees (That includes Yaw Osafo-Marfo and Boakye Agyarko)

News gathered is that the majority used its overwhelming numerical strength to pass the motion for the nominees to be approved because Nana Addo is on a schedule to travel to Addis Ababa for an AU summit and the concerns of the Minority is delaying the process which is subsequently distorting the President’s protocol schedules.
