Nana Akuffo Addo Elected as NPP’s Flag Bearer Again

For the third time, Nana Addo Danwah Akuffo Addo has been elected as the flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Nana Akuffo Addo, who managed to secure an overwhelming victory, contested against Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen (a former Minister of Trade and Industry in the Kuffuor administration) and Francis Addai-Nimoh (Member of Parliament for Mampong).

Out of the total number of votes cast by over 140,000 delegates in the 276 constituencies across the country, Nana Akuffo Addo had 117, 413 votes, Alan Kyerematen had 5,908, whilst Addai-Nimoh pulled 1,128. Statistically, this represents 94.35 %, 4.75% %, and 0.91% % respectively.

In 2008 and 2012, Nana Akuffo Addo led the NPP to contest for the presidential seat in the country’s general elections but lost on those two occasions to John Evans Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama respectively who contested on the tickets on the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
