I did not want to pick up on this but then if not said, the disrespectful and loose rate at which some of our Ghanaian celebrities talk during interviews will forever continue… Though a champion of free speech and freedom of expression, I still think accentuating some absurd disparity between classes of human beings … Read more

When GhanaCelebrities.Com spoke with Nadia Buari after grabbing a nomination in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category for the upcoming Ghana Movie Awards, she said “…wow it’s good news. It makes me know that at least my works are appreciated. I just wasn’t looking forward to it. My mind was basically opened.”
Though the fast growing and outspoken actress, Helen Asante is excited about her nomination too, she is somehow pessimistic about winning the award on Christmas day.
Nadia was nominated for a hardcore-Police-Officer-role in the hugely successful movie ‘Who Owns The City’, produced by HM Films and directed by Nollywood big boy Ifeanyi Inyeabor.

‘Somewhere In Africa’ premieres on Saturday, 30th July, 2011 at the National Theatre,Accra.
As we prepare to see one of the best movies to have come out ofGhana, GhanaCelebrities.Com caught up with the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards’ Best Actress-Roselyn Ngissah who plays a central role in the movie for a chit chat.
Roselyn is undoubted a very good actress with a lot of potential to hit the bigger screens. We spoke about ‘Somewhere In Africa’, her body size, working with other stars and then Roselyn had a little but golden advice for all the young girls who are aspiring to get into the game.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: What Is Your Role In ‘Somewhere In Africa’ About?
I’m the second in command to the commander himself, Mumbasa who is played by Majid Michel. In my role I take orders from Mumbasa. It’s quite a challenging role as I was terrorizing and killing innocent people not for any reason but because I was ordered to do it.
GhanaCelebrities.Com: What Did You Find Challenging About This Role?
Playing a character that was so militant was very challenging; also this was the first of this kind of character that I’ve ever acted. I’m always playing the naughty girl, the funny girl, professional girl such as a Dr or Lawyer.
In this role I had to play a soldier which was quite physically demanding and meant I had to do a lot of running around. The role really required me to be strong and fit. When I first got the role I have to admit I was taken aback by what would be involved.
I was thinking about my body size and how I look, I was thinking I’m not just any soldier but second in command. Initially I wanted to hit the gym but the director explained that he’d given me a challenging role to do and knows I am more than capable, so I had no other choice but to get into it.
Also when I arrived on set I wasn’t even aware that I would have to change my accent. I had already rehearsed and got myself into character and once I got on set I was told that they had decided to change the accent and this is how they want me to speak.

As a patriotic Ghanaian, I detest people who make comments that seem to suggest that they do not like Ghanaian movies. Comments such as ‘I don’t watch Ghanaian movies’ and ‘I only watch foreign movies’ and the rest of such worthless comments irritate me.
Nonetheless I think that people who make such comments can’t be blamed for their stand. This is because sometimes it’s very painful to watch some of these Ghanaian movies with horrific pictures, inappropriate languages, bad sound and lots of continuity inaccuracies.
So it’s somehow prudent to concur with the people who have constantly drummed into our ears their strong aversion for movies produced in Ghana. Just imagine sitting through the entire duration of a Ghanaian movie and only to realize that, the story line is similar to several Ghanaian movies you have already watched.
Don’t get it twisted, it’s not a similar story; it’s actually the same story twisted with different casts.
Least I forget, their story lines are about love: If it’s not about someone dreaming about a lady and goes to gallivant searching for the said lady [imagine this], then it would be a man who claims to love a girl yet goes to the ladies house to insult and beat the parents.

As we wait for the premiere of ‘Somewhere In Africa’ in Ghana and other parts of the world, various individuals especially GhanaCelebrities.Com readers on seeing the trailer have tagged the movie as a total ‘rip-off’ of the popular South African Movie ‘Sarfarina’.
With the rip-off controversy in mind and GC’s desire to find out what we should expect from ‘Somewhere In Africa’, we contacted the leading Actress in the movie-Martha Ankomah for an interview solely centred around the movie… Read our chit chat below…
The much-anticipated premiere of Marhills Productions’ latest movie titled ‘Bed of Roses’ last week at the Silverbird Cinema has been postponed to July 8, 2011 at the same venue.
The date for the movie’s other premieres in the regions remains unchanged. Reasons have not been given for the postponement as producer Michael Odika only hinted, “The Accra premiere has been shifted to July 8 at the same venue, Silverbird.”
Unconfirmed reports say the producer didn’t want to risk a competition with producer Shirley Frimpong-Manso who also premiered her ‘Adams Apples’ on the same day at the National Theatre.
Marhills Productions has a past record of producing movies like ‘Shakira’, ‘Trinity’, ‘Last Victory’, ‘Akurasi Burgers’, ‘Madam Moke’, ‘Royal Battle’, ‘Omanpenim Yiri’ in collaboration with Gupado Films.
‘Bed of Roses’ is a solo project and directed by Pascal Amanfo. It features the crème de la crème of the movie industry. Among them are Majid Michel, John Dumelo, Martha Ankomah, Yvonne Okoro, Luckie Lawson, Adjetey Annang aka Pusher, Ebi Bright, Joselyn Dumas and Helen Asante among others.
Readers are post hijacking our articles and talking about the fact that Jackie Appiah is rumoured to be pregnant and GC is not on reporting it. We decided not to report on this rumour simply because, Jackie is happily and legally married so it is nothing strange for her to be pregnant. After all, one of the fundamental purposes of marriage is procreation.
Anyway, since readers will not let the rumour rest and have captured various posts not related to this to discuss Jackie Appiah’s pregnancy gossip, I am writing on it to help publicize the rumour and provide a thread where discussions relating to this topic can take place.
Actress Juliet Ibrahim was on set over the weekend after having taken a long break for motherly responsibilities. For her fans, she tweeted some photos from somewhere in Spintex, Accra. GhanaCelebrities.Com is told that, Juliet Safo Ibrahim is returning big and was on set of T4 Plus production with Martha Ankomah, John Dumelo, Kalsome Sinare and others.
Information circulating around has it that, the “16 years” hit musician has made a sudden jump into movies to rival the likes of Jackie Appiah, Nadia Buari, Martha Ankomah, Yvonne Okoro and the rest.
The exodus of musicians into the world of movies is not a new concept in the world of Entertainment. In the western world, certain musicians double as actors and the vice versa. However, Mzbel has been silent with musical hits for sometimes and I cannot remember any major hit that she has been able to pull out in recent years.
This therefore bothers my thinking as to why an already established and doing well musician like Mzbel would not concentrate on the musical art to bring out hit songs but would suddenly jump-start with movies, an industry saturated with talentless individuals.
