Ghanaian film-maker based in USA, Leila Djansi says she is currently in Ghana for a short stay—and after facing just a small fraction of the plights of Ghanaians, she has regretted campaigning for the NDC.
Leila Djansi claims her water has not been flowing regularly since she returned and coupled with the hovering hardship, she finds it regrettable that she helped in getting the NDC into power.
Actually, Leila Djansi stated that she does not vote in Ghana yet campaigned for a specific political party to get them in power—somewhat upsetting the political landscape that she really does not have a major stake in.
This should not have reasonable been the case; why campaign for a party in a country where you do not even live or carry a voting right—why help ‘criminals’ get into power when their decisions are less likely to affect you and then only come back to tell the suffering Ghanaians that you are ‘SORRY.’
On facebook, a user asked; what actually made Leila Djansi campaign for the NDC—adding that, it seems plausible to say that she did so because of her tribe, because it’s the same NDC at work; nothing has changed.

Ghana Wins ZERO At the 2015 Africa Movie Academy Awards & Yet We Say Our Industry is Not Dying
It wouldn’t be intellectually stable to use Ghana’s discouraging nominations and its subsequent ZERO winning at this year’s Africa Movie Academy Awards as the absolute measure of the state of Ghana’s Movie Industry—but this substantially adds to the already known factors to confirm that, Ghana’s once booming and competitive movie industry is at the edge … Read more
Film-Maker Leila Djansi DELETES Her ‘Ignorant Clothed in Tribalism’ Ebola Vaccine Trial in Ghana Comment From Facebook
The greatest way to kill ignorance especially with Africans is to robustly challenge their entrenched ignorance. We fail to learn, to read and yet parade ourselves as mouth pieces—addressing and attacking issues we have not even the slightest knowledge on.
Following my article-We Ghanaians Are ‘Selfish Ignorant B*stards’ | Where Do We Want the Ebola Vaccine Trial to Take Place? + See What Leila Djansi Wrote, film-maker-Leila Djansi has deleted that extensive ignorant comment clothed in tribalism that she posted on facebook about the Ebola vaccine positioned to take place in the Volta Region of Ghana.
As someone who spends a lot of time online, I have always defended Ewes when they get attacked online (for some weird reason, they get a lot of such tribal attacks)—and my defence borders on the lines that, tribalism is a Paleolithic era absurdity. We need to grow pass that. But then when you find Ewes like Leila Djansi who ought to know better making some shockingly stupid tribal comments on national/global issues all the time—it just makes you wonder where we are going as a nation.
Leila Djansi Asks KKD to SHUT UP + Are there Real Feminists in Ghana?
I used the word REAL in front of feminists to segregate women talkers from those who understand and advocate for what it takes to be a woman in a proper discourse…
I am currently writing a very long academic essay on feminism perspective on international human rights law and some of the feminists arguments are not only touching, they effectively highlight the deficiency of the law in taking into account the experiences of women, especially in cases of rape.
Women have been long marginalised by the law and society which are modelled on the concept of male dominance and they continue to suffer under this framework as the current societal structures as well as the legal framework do not really mirror their experiences. This is worse in Africa—the KKD’s rape case and the aftermath which has been full of insensitive talks in the face of the troubles of the victim clearly demonstrates this.
Women are still treated more like “things” than people, made effectively possible by even the law. As Catharine MacKinnon puts it in relation to rape in her book ‘Are Women Human and Other International Dialogues’; “the fact that the law of rape protects rapists and is written from their point of view to guarantee impunity for most rapes is officially regarded as a violation of the law of sex equality, national or international, by virtually nobody.”
Beyond that, the way society especially in our part of the world treats rape victims is extensively pathetic. KKD and his family have been talking loosely and no one in high authority dare asks them to shut up—after all, he is a man and whoever he allegedly raped is just a ‘thing’.
Apart from the talks, he has started glamorously appearing at events as though he has just won a boxing match—his victim and her experience, no one seems to care about.
John Dumelo Calls Recent Story of Him Picking Shirley Frimpong Manso Over Leila Djansi BS | Says a Section of the Media is Just Planting Rivalry Between Shirley & Leila
A false publication was as usual picked by several Ghanaian media outlets about a week ago, which stated among other things that Ghanaian actor-John Dumelo had picked Shirley Frimpong Manso over Leila Djansi—conjuring from the sky some sort of rivalry between the two film-makers…
According to today’s issue of Razz Newspaper which comes out every Wednesday (don’t forget to grab a copy), John Dumelo has called the story BS.
John Dumelo added that, it is just a “section of the Ghanaian media for trying to create rivalry between Shirley and Leila by twisting and reading meanings into a statement he made about Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s new film movie, Love Or Something Like That.”
Personally, I read some of these stories and I just SMDH. If John Dumelo has worked with a film-maker and he feels that his latest lead role is the best so far, what is that got to do with Leila Djansi? Has John Dumelo not equally worked with other film-makers like Abdul Sallam? So why did the story not say, John Dumelo picked Shirley Frimpong Manso over Abdul Sallam?
It doesn’t take a degree in mathematics to deduct that, John Dumelo will probably say his lead role with another film-maker is the best so far when that film is his latest and he is on a stage to help with publicity or promo for the movie. Geez!
Read below for the full report as captured by Razz Newspaper;
Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has criticized a section of the Ghanaian media for trying to create rivalry between Shirley and Leila by twisting and reading meanings into a statement he made about Shirley Frimpong-Manso’s new film movie, ‘Love Or Something Like That.’
Just after the premiere of the movie, ‘Love Or Something Like That’ at the National Theatre last week which was heavily-attended by many including Hon. Oye Lithur and other dignitaries, John Dumelo made a categorical statement saying, “There is Hollywood, there is Bollywood and then there is Shirley Frimpong-Manso making Africa proud.”
According to him, after making that statement, a section of the media have decided to twist the statement and turn it round to make it look as if he has endorsed Shirley over Leila Djansi. He added that, the statement he made after the showing of the movie has nothing do with endorsing a particular filmmaker over the other.
Over 3,000 Votes Say Shirley Frimpong Manso is the Best Ghanaian Film Director & Socrate Sarfo is the Worst…
Despite the many times Shirley Frimpong Manso has shown that she is best Ghanaian Film Director by sweeping several of the top African movie awards in recent years, the debate who is the best Ghanaian film director keeps coming up—so we decided to settle this…
Last month, we created a poll with those we all agree are on top of the chain when it comes to film making in Ghana, namely, Leila Djansi, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Socrate Sarfo, Frank Rajah and Pascal Amanfo—and asked Ghanaian movie enthusiasts to vote for their best.
After over 3,000 votes so far, Shirley Frimpong Manso has 49.66% (making up 1,519 votes), followed by Frank Rajah with 41.81% (1,279 votes) and Leila Djansi has received 6.51% (199 votes).
Socrate Sarfo has so far received only 14 votes and Pascal Amanfo has 48 votes to his name…
The outcome of the poll is not that surprising considering the fact that, Shirley Frimpong Manso has become a strong film-making household name in Ghana…

Leila Djansi Says Her Biggest REGRET In Life is Investing/Making Films in Ghana
Few year’s ago-Leila Djansi stated categorically that she was tired of the useless Ghanaian movie industry and was not going to make any more movies in Ghana…
In fact, she disappeared—only for some few months and came back again. She is a Ghanaian and has the right to go and come, do business in Ghana including making films like others do.
But what is the point of her constant display of hypocrisy? At the beginning, some of us thought she was expressing genuine concerns about the state of the Ghanaian movie industry but her utterances suggest otherwise.
Today, she took to her facebook to say; her biggest regret is investing/making films in Ghana—something she said some years back. And yet, came back to invest more…
Whatever it is, we think Leila has to take the chill pill and learn to shut up sometimes—since the industry will survive without or without her.
As a GC reader once said;
Leila Djansi Says She Is Not Proud of the Movie ‘A Northern Affair’ & It Falls Below Her Standard of Work…
Leila Djansi back again and this time, she is saying that the movie- A Northern Affair which she recently directed falls below her known standard—and she is blaming it all on the budget.
In fact, what baffles some of us is; didn’t she know about the budget of the movie before taking up the job? If you have a standard and you are keen on maintaining it, you have to go all out there to do so—including not taking up jobs which will throw you back because of the budget.
Anyway, Leila has launched a blog where she rants and dissects certain issues so as her latest, she has written a piece explaining how the low budget of ‘A Northern Affair’, made the movie fall below her standard of work.
And according to her, some people close to her even said the movie was not like her style of work when it came out…
I guess Leila Djansi has to give props to those film-makers who are able to make great movies despite the financial holdback.
Read excerpts from what Leila had to say about ‘A Northern Affair’ which features John Dumelo, Joselyn Dumas, Jon Germaine and others…
Interestingly, the movie won almost all the awards at the 2013 Ghana Movie Awards…
Leila Djansi Says Socrate Sarfo Told Her Not to Work With Akorfa & Not to Even Come to Work in Ghana…
Leila Djansi who was once an apprentice on Socrate Sarfo’s movie set (the latter has once said) seems to have unending things to say about the ‘Hot Fork’ film-maker…
It seems an existing resentment between the two film-makers will live on forever—-since Leila always has something to say about Socrate, the moment the latter’s name pop up.
In a recent interview with NewsOne, Leila Djansi had the below to say when she was asked; Is Socrates Sarfo your friend?
I have never been at odds with Socrates. He told me not to come back to Ghana because the industry was choked. I did. He told me not to work with Akorfa, I did. Then he made a film I thought was exploitative, I told him about it and he got upset. When I see him, I go up to him, he ignores me. He goes about trying to sabotage me working in Ghana but I really don’t care. I buy all his films. Good or bad to support him and I’ll continue to do that as a sign of gratitude.
About the assumption that she is controversial, she said;
Leila Djansi Throws A Dagger At Socrate Sarfo & Senanu Gbedawo + She Says She Spent Half A Million Dollars on Sinking Sands in Ghana Alone…
According to an article film-maker Leila Djansi published, she spent almost half a million dollars on her movie-Sinking Sands in Ghana alone and in fact, she lost money on that production…
In the said blog post, she wrote;
“I spent, excluding marketing and finishing, almost 500,000 dollars in Ghana alone. I laid out a good amount of money for the marketing of the film. Some was spent on the marketing, Senanu Gbedawo enjoyed the rest. The theater was empty. I lost money. if I hadn’t found a buyer here in the States, I don’t know what I’d have done.”
In the same post, Leila Djansi who Socrate Sarfo has once said she was his student (apprentice) on film set threw some daggers and some landed on Socrate Sarfo’s doorsteps.

Let’s Settle the Debate Once & For All: And The Best Ghanaian Movie Director Is?
Based on which Director’s movie is trending, the person mostly wins the known movie awards and if you are a sceptic like me, you will definitely not even believe the genuineness of many of these awards that get handed out…
Last year’s Ghana Movie Awards also failed to give us any strong indication as to who is leading the game—awarding two of the Directors below with their Best Director award.
Let’s forget the technical language if we do not understand them and invoke our individual honesty by voting for who we think is the Best Ghanaian Movie Director—-based on the many Ghanaian movies we’ve seen.
*By Ghanaian Movie Director, the person must have been working in the Ghanaian Movie industry, no necessary a Ghanaian by citizenship*
Vote Below Now and let’s settle the debate once and for all…
Songstress-EFYA to Direct Movies
One of Ghana’s sensational songstresses, Efya, best known for her hit song “little things that you do,” has revealed that she would be venturing into film directing soon.
Efya made this revelation when she was interviewed on GH One’s entertainment show – E-Talk yesterday. “I want to direct movies aside the music I do. I shall be directing my own movies. I studied and majored in directing in the University of Ghana, Legon,” Efya intimated.
Efya also revealed that she has no problem with singing songs composed or written by other musicians or song writers. “I don’t see anything wrong with that. I rather see it as an honour because if someone gives you a song, it’s like the fellow has entrusted something dear to him or her, so if you take it, make it your own and make it ‘blow up,’ it tells how ingenious you are.
