There seems to be a trend among Ghallywood actresses to assume that there is a certain level of inferiority in Kumawood scripts which we’re not quite sure exists.
Both industries produce a lot of whack movies, but Kumawood makes more sales. This insistence for those in the english speaking industry to emphasise they would only do ‘quality’ twi movies is getting a little old.
A lady described as a Kumawood Actress by name Gloria Kani last week came up with claims that she has evidence of Bisa Kdei bonking a fellow musician’s Girlfriend in Belgium and that news went viral, particularly with Gloria demanding a Range Rover from Bisa to enable her shut up or she’ll leak it.
Kumawood director Jackson Bentum has hit out at Martha Ankomah for saying she does not take Kumawood scripts because they are usually only about witchcraft.
Bentum, an award winning director in his own right, says the actress knows nothing about directing of movies and thus, she should not talk about matters in which she has no expertise.
Actress Martha Ankomah, a devoted Christian, has said that her reluctance to act Kumawood roles is because too many of their scripts revolve around witchcraft and the use of ‘juju’.
Speaking with Hitz Fm, Ankomah said the worst part of such stories is that the insertion of the juju does not even make sense story-wise, and therefore for her she would not waste her time acting such roles.
Women love to beef Jollof to make it shady spicy, just so nobody can stand it’s inviting aroma or sight. When there’s no beef or when they don’t like beef, they will still beef up the Jollof with something else, let say mutton or fried plantains and completely leave observers who can’t have that Jollof worried.
See how this seems to play in the life of female Ghanaian Celebrities who probably are in a healthy or an unhealthy competition.
I have stopped watching African movies until things drastically change–I realised I can make better use of my time by sleeping, watching some 1970 Kungfu movies or draining myself in one of the numerous amazing western TV series.
Unless I am being paid for my time, I wouldn’t waste two hours of my time on earth watching the nonsense most of the film-makers in Africa, especially Ghana have been putting out there are movies.
We’ve given them enough time to get better, to get serious or at least to understand that their patrons are not stupid or bored to death such that anything at all they put out there would be consumed. But it’s rather getting worse.
I came across the below video on Facebook and it summarizes everything that’s wrong with the other part of Ghana’s movie industry-Kumawood–and anyone who calls it a movie industry.
The final funeral rites of the Queen Mother of the Asanti’s, Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II is still ongoing at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Celebrities, dignitaries and several people from around the world have graced the Manhyia Palace to pay homage and respect to the queen mother and the entire Ashanti kingdom.
One of the staunchest supporters of the National Democratic Party, says he is ever to get into the acting scene if any of the Kumasi Movie Producers feature him in a movie.
Speaking with Fiifi Banson on Anopa Kasapa on Kasapa 102.5FM, Mr. Beautiful said:
Benedicta Gafah I can bet my last farthing that this is no debate any one would win on—as we have people who believe it is not up to the man to spoil his woman with all the frivolity that money can spare. Others have maintained the biblical stance that men actually have to take care of their women no matter what. Apparently Kumawood actress shares in the thought of the latter. Taking to Instagram, she tears into the affairs of men when this subject is up.
Kumawood actor, Kwaku Manu in an interview on the controversial Delay Show has established that cheating on your wife is no big deal. If we are to deduce meaning from the above— it is safe to say men cheat because they were created uniquely.
Most times we are left with no other option that to believe being arrogant and petty comes with the celebrity status and who can even blame us. These so called celebs can trigger one hell of annoyance in you once they begin to think they are up the celebrity ladder.
Lil Win-I Don’t Think Far Kwadwo Nkansah otherwise known in showbizness circles as Lil Win is said to be have been defrauded by one of his closest friends. The I Can’t Think Far hit maker who is currently in Germany has refused to pass any comments till he gets back into the country though sources say he was livid as at the time they spoke to him.
People think just because they are endowed with mouths and voices, they for all the reasons in the world must speak and raise concerns. This Democracy and its accompaniments is really taking us far. People would just sit somewhere and lash out some unconstructive criticisms and feel so much weight for having done that. Kumawood star, Tracey Boakye is no new name to the ruling National Democratic Congress— she for a fact has become one of the household celebrities sharing bed with this party.
We are from Kumasi and you know how the people of Kumasi do their things—please I am not saying anything so do not tow the lane of misconstruing me. Kumawood star and president of the Ashanti Regional Actors Guild, Bill Asamoah’s first son but second child turns four years today and pictures circulating of the adorable kid as he slides into his cake is just nostalgic. It makes me remember the last time I was four years old.
