These two men for many years have been celebrated in Ghana as showbiz personalities—and undeserving respect has been accorded them. From what we now know about their antics the night Ms Ewuraffe Orleans-Thompson was allegedly raped, I can boldly say these two are not gentlemen at all—and should not be given any sort of public respect again.
How can two grown up men (one married) pick up random young girls at an event and try to do something with these girls who did not only refuse their drinks but also were not interested in any sexual act; be it a kiss or a bang bang.
First of all, I would like to apologise to anyone who I have offended with my KKD defence tactics since the alleged KKD rape case saga emerged and importantly to you; because I commented on several of your articles rubbishing a possibility that Kwesi Kyei Darkwah could have rapped the 19 year old.
At that time, I thought I was right and the position I held was based on available information. What I did wrong then was the fact that, I did not leave any room for scepticism and I mean, I did not allow myself to think that, such a fine gentleman could have done so to a young woman.
I think my utmost respect for the man and his achievements clouded my judgement to the extent that I couldn’t bring myself to consider any possibility that he could have done what was being alleged.
But in the last few days and having come across new information, I have changed my mind. I am not saying for sure he did what is being alleged since it’s not in my position to pronounce such judgement—but I have changed the certain nature of my position and today, I believe; he could have done it.
From the new information of the 19 year old girl being a virgin to KOD (another one) being in the room and having somehow increased the volume of a television set to prevent the struggles and screams of the young girl being heard—it seems there was a rape.
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah’s alleged rape case has today been transferred to the High Court for trail—despite the fact that his lawyer-Anthony Forson argued that the case should be dismissed.
At the Kanieshie District Court today presided over by justice Adjoa Akyamaa, the court transferred the case to the High Court after the prosecutor read the bill of indictment.
KKD’s lawyer had wanted the case not to be transferred, rather be dismissed—arguing that the State wouldn’t be able to make a case at the High Court since the key alleged victim has already expressed her dis-interest in the case. Here, the lawyer pulled out the letter written by the alleged victim some weeks ago and read it to the judge.
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) was due in Court today and once again, he did not appear but his lawyers did—on the grounds that, KKD is still not well.
As a result, the Court once again have adjourned the KKD rape case to February 18, 2015 and according to KKD’s lawyer, their client is booked to see a Clinical Psychologist next week Tuesday following a medical review of his condition.
The reason why KKD is due to a Clinical Psychologist was not mentioned but surely, this seems a little out of place…
The Republic of Ghana seems serious about not discontinuing the KKD rape trial following the alleged victim’s expression of dis-interest in the case.
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) has been served with with a bill of indictment for allegedly raping the 19-year-old girl—and he was in court yesterday supported by his father (photo above).
The serving of the bill of indictment comes with the summary of evidence and witnesses who would give evidence in the case—and this means, the road is set for the committal hearing of the case.
It seems like the State is not moved by attempts by certain big ‘men and women’ to have the case discontinued—and the reason could be that, the prosecutor does not want to send a wrong signal to people that; you can go about breaking the laws of Ghana if you have money, influence or status…
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) was in Court this morning still in relation to his alleged rape charges—and when he thought everything was working to his favour, the State has insisted on prosecuting him for rape even though the alleged victim has written a letter to the Attorney General to express her dis-interest in case which many thought would have led to the case being dropped.
In Court today, Wilberforce Asare mentioned that the State Prosecutors are not discontinuing the trial and as such requested for one week to enable them serve KKD with a bill of indictment and summary of evidence for trial to commence…
It’s pretty difficult to digest a set up in the whole Kwesi Kyei Darkwah saga—considering the fact that KKD is not a robot for anyone to instruct that he picks up a 19 year old girl at an event and take her into a bathroom to have s*x with her. Yet, his lawyers say, they … Read more
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) has finally been granted bail by an Accra Human Rights Court—and this comes just two days after the girl who alleged that he raped her wrote to the necessary authorities to withdraw case. KKD’s appearance at the Human Rights Court today can be seen as a mere procedure requirement as the case … Read more
The level with which some Ghanaians defend those who have intentionally broken the law, hurt others and have taken away the dignity of others is beyond shocking—and Kwesi Kyei Darkwah’s case brought this to light… Trust that whatever someone does in this world, he or she will have supporters, mostly credulous supporters who fail to … Read more
It’s obvious Kwesi Kyei Darkwah did not take the rape allegation brought by the 19 year old girl seriously—and this was evident in the manner he and his lawyer appeared in the Court for the first hearing which remanded him in jail. Yesterday, KKD was reported to have been at the Police Hospital while his … Read more
Kwesi Kyei Darkwah (KKD) appeared in Court today over the alleged rape charges hovering over his heard, and he has been remanded in prison to reappear in Court on January 22…
As a result of the above, the District Court today said, since they have already made an application for bail at the Human Rights Court, it would be prudent to hear the outcome of that application before it continues with its hearing—which would likely be to transfer the case to a higher court.
Since it emerged that a certain 19 year old girl has reported Kwesi Kyei Darkwah to the Airport Police Station for rape, following which KKD was arrested—the radio personality and his many lawyers have somewhat turned to the media to address the criminal charges…
Of course winning the public sympathy matters when it comes to certain cases—but a rape allegation brought by a 19 year old girl against a 49 year old man is definitely one of such cases. KKD has accepted that he had sexual intercourse with this young girl capable of being his daughter—except that he disagrees with the girl on the issue of consent.
On the Ghanaian moral ladder, KKD is at fault for meeting a girl of 19 years old at an event and within few hours having ‘seks’ with this girl at the bathroom of his hotel. The uncontested facts are such that, using the media to spread any form of propaganda cannot change the deep minds of the public, yet, this seems to be the mode of operation adopted by KKD and his legal team.
They’ve been talking a lot in the media—saying, the alleged raped girl has no case and they smell some sort of back strings being pulled by certain people to taint KKD’s reputation. We’ve also heard them say, the girl’s allegations are ridiculous—and no court will accept what happened to be rape…
The issue under contention is whether the sex that took place in the bathroom had the girl’s consent or not—an issue to be determined solely by a court in line with Ghana’s rape laws. The public will have no say in this and as such, I wonder why the media has become the right avenue for KKD and his legal team to be discussing everything relating to this case—including their would be evidence.
As the festive bells fall silent and an auspicious year has pleasantly broken upon us, we may turn wistful faces away from the year just ended, and perhaps gaze with exquisite hope, fragrant resolve, and keen determination embalmed in a spirit of flush excitement to what this year has in store for us.
Nevertheless, no matter what a new year holds up its sleeves, there remains a fixed fact that repeats itself with unerring regularity that one person’s misfortune might well be another person’s fortune. And in view of the last few days, I feel impelled to indite a follow-up piece to my last article, Did KKD Go Against His Own Morals? Any other related article will come after the verdict.
While the year seems to be in its cushy cradle or inchoate stage, already New Year resolutions are tottering to the ground like shaky thrones. Cardinally predicated upon the ongoing KKD saga and my firm belief that the lives of both accused and complainant will change forever, I may yet posit a more personal and intriguing question: KKD Today, Who Next?
Would it be me, or you are next? Or, perhaps someone you know? If life teaches us one solid truth, it is that the good are capable of committing odious, heinous, opprobrious acts; on the contrary, the bad, the wayward, the malevolent on occasion can demonstrate acts of such consummate sweetness, such refreshing fidelity, and such splendid charm. No person has absolute perfection, and the reverse is equally applicable. It is rare to find anyone who does not have any skeletons in their closet. Yes, we all have them. I know mine. Are you aware of yours?
Have you discovered your true condition? It was an Old Testament prophet who sounded out a timeless truth worth repeating. With characteristic precision and poise he posed the interminable question: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”
We are well-trained in a country like Ghana. Most families instil cherished morals in their children from a very young age. And someone like Mr. Darkwah would be no exception. On this sound premise, it is rather unfortunate the turn of events in the last few days. Tragically, a case like this threatens to ruin a reputation that has taken years to forge in the searing anvil of life.
It is appropriate to plead using this medium that we do not become a jury when the case is yet to be decided. The firm presumption has to be that he is innocent until proven guilty. After all, a charge is not the same as a sentence.
Nonetheless, thinking about the issue, one has to wonder what exactly went on, or perhaps is going on. As some will strongly argue with or without deference, a man can date any girl who is not a minor, and is of sound mind. That said, when people are in the limelight, we usually expect them to act in a certain way. This is not the law, but more of societal custom and expectation. Thus, the age gap between accused and complainant itself raises questions, particularly when the complainant could well be his daughter. But on a more serious note, one has to pause and ask a few more probing and trenchant questions in the light of the public information I have to bring to your attention.
Below is a verifiable Facebook note written by The Finest as he likes to be referred to. I encourage you to peruse through and hear what the man has to say. The note is dated (13 June 2014 at 09:32). Most likely, you may conclude that if he had followed his own stated morals as obvious from this note, then things would have turned out quite differently. And if he indeed followed his morals, then he can be confident of escaping from this septic morass he is stuck in. But that is for you to read and decide whether you agree or otherwise.
I am back and if you do not like it, just get the hell out of my way—because we definitely need to use of you for experiments in the laboratory, you are no difference from mice when it comes to your abilities to evaluate situations and come to establish the truth.
Despite how strange it is that a 50 year old man met a girl as young as 19, capable of being his daughter at a hotel—and instantly decided to want to have seks with her and in fact proceeded to do so, many still seem to believe, KKD did nothing wrong.
Of course he did nothing wrong because many of those defending his actions and failing to take a minute to consider the stories of the various women themselves are no different from KKD—our streets are full of old dirty bast*rds who prey on little girls like hawks.
For Christ sake, which reputable level headed man will meet a young girl at a hotel, take the girl together with her cousin and his cousin into his hotel room—and while there, go to have seks with this newly met girl in the bathroom? Even if you are one of those acute mentally constipated douchebags who believe the girl was not raped, what do you make out of this man’s behaviour, lack of self respect and morals?
The only thing that stops most men from breaking the law or raping women is self respect, morals and decent behaviour—what KKD claims to have happened that night lacks any of these elements and therefore, what makes anyone think he did not rape the girl as she claims or he is not capable of doing so?
When it comes to smart but foolish se*ual predators like KKD, they buy into this conception of delusion fuelled by fame and the stupidity of some people who have no heads to think—therefore would support them no matter what. These predators use some sort of arrogance, self-obsession and several cunning traits like being the finest to cloud the judgement of those who may see through the smoke—and at the same time, to prey on their victims. Notably, predators like KKD starts lying to themselves about their actions that there is nothing wrong with what they are doing—and eventually begin to believe in their own lies.
And if it happens that this ODBs live in societies like Ghana where se*ually abused victims are never the true victims but become the culprits; then they will ride on the insensitivity and stupidity of the society to perpetuate their acts. Because, the victims cannot even go out and say it—the society will slam them, call them all sorts of names and come up with dumb arguments that a man running to the toilet would not even make, just to discredit these women victims.
