Fred Amugi, a former President of the guild himself, said the organisation has descended into ceaseless infighting, and therefore it’s a tool for furthering the agenda of certain individuals.

On 8th and 9th January, 2016 at the Accra Mall’s SilverBird Cinema, Sparrow Productions served African movie lovers the first dose of its Sparrow Entertainment Festival—screening two of its latest productions; an enthralling political drama series titled ‘SHAMPAIGN’ and a one-of-a-kind movie thriller titled ‘REBECCA.’
They promised a two-day soiree of up close and personal interaction with cast, crew and movie stars from all around the continent, red carpet pictures, interviews, autograph signing and behind the scenes gossip—which was duly delivered.
The 2016 Sparrow Entertainment Festival was a success and therefore we expect it to take on an annual cloak.
The red carpet was celebrity packed; various movie stars and industry persons from Nigeria and Ghana attended—notably; Shirley Frimpong-Manso, Joselyn Dumas, Adjetey Anang, OC Ukeje, Joseph Benjamin, Fred Amugi, Akorfa Edjeani Asiedu, Ken Attoh, Zynell Zuh and others.

It looks like 2014 is going to be a very stimulating, fun-packed as well as competitive year for the Ghana Movie industry. Although, the year is young, we are aware of a lot of good and quality productions which are coming out soon. There are also a good number of great movies coming out in the month of February which will present so many options for African movie lovers.

One of such interesting movies titled-Any more women? will be premiered at the National Theatre on 8th February, 2014. Not only does the movie’s title strike as interesting but the poster gives a very suggestive and flattering outlook of the movie. In any case if the team was trying to wet our appetite with that flattering picture of the lead actor then I must confess they just did.

Ghanaians should prepare to have a laugh of a life time as the organisers of the maiden edition of the ‘Miss Goldenwood Beauty Pageant and Talent Hunt’ have flown one of the biggest Nollywood actors cum comedian, Mr. John Okafor aka Mr Ibu to Ghana.

In what seems like a ‘Mega Christmas Laugh’, Mr. Ibu who calls himself a ‘fool’ and ‘ugly’ is expected to subject Ghanaians to pure laughter and madness as he co-hosts the pageant, which seeks to “discover the next movie star” for the Ghana Movie Industry.

He is also in Ghana to help restore peace in Tamale in the Northern Region of Ghana after accepting the invitation by a former footballer who hails from Tamale, he met in Holland. More on this will be published later.

Few hours after touching, he visited many radio and TV stations to talk extensively about the two projects. After a running around, he visited the ‘Goldenwood House’ in East Legon to visit the remaining 10 contestants of the pageant.

He advised them to be serious and be grateful to the organisers for giving them the opportunity to notice their talent, reshape it for the fame and the glitz that awaits them. The contestants expressed their joy to him after advising and making them laugh out loud.

Mr. Ibu’s co-host for the finals slated for Thursday December 22 at the nation’s premiere entertainment centre, the National Theatre is not confirmed yet but rumours going have it that, it could be Akumaa Mama Zimbi of Adom FM.
