The winner of the 2018 Fifa World Cup would pocket as much as $38m from the world football governing body.
Germany, who won the 2014 World Cup, went home with $35m, but the figure has been adjusted slightly upward for next year.

Fifa Approves Measure To Expand World Cup To 48 Teams From 2026
Football’s world governing body Fifa have approved the measure for its flagship competition, the World Cup, to be expanded to 48 teams from the current number of 32.
A vote was held by the organisation Tuesday that saw unanimous agreement on the expansion measure.

The Fifa World Cup has always been an exclusive, big boy’s event, where the rest of the world was gradually allowed to crash in and pretend to compete with the big boys- Europe and South America.
Africa and Asia are the world’s biggest continents in terms of land mass and population, yet have five and four and a half places respectively. Europe, one of the smallest continents, has 14 of the 32 slots.
