As many people predicted, the Government’s three member committee set up to investigate the Black Stars following the world cup fiasco has attracted the attentions of FIFA, and unless the GFA can soothe the fears of FIFA that there would be no interference in their work by this committee, Ghana runs the risk of being banned from all football related activities.
The President earlier this month set up a three member committee to investigate the Black Stars poor showing at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. This week new sports Minister Mahama Ayariga announced that the committee had been upgraded to a ‘commission of enquiry’, with powers to compel people to tell the truth, as an oath would be sworn before testimony is given.
This development, it seems, is worrying to the world football governing body, and they wrote to the GFA seeking clarification on the powers of this commission.
The letter, signed by Deputy General Secretary Markus Kattner, read “We have learnt from media reports that the Presidency of the republic of Ghana has appointed a Committee of Enquiry and Investigation into the Black Stars participation to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The composition and the competences of the said Commission are unclear. Provided the reports are true we deem it important to clarify from the beginning the procedures and to ensure that the GFA can operate without interference as required by FIFA statutes. Under this circumstance we kindly ask you to provide us with a report at your earliest convenience.”
