More Findings On Fennec Okyere’s Murder But Ghana Police Is Not Ready to Speak Out – What Could They Not Be Telling Us?

Ten (10) months after the murder of manager of hiplife musician Kwaw Kesse, Fennec Okyere, the big question the public and art critics keep asking the police service is: Where has the police service reached with investigations on the case?

The nation woke up on 13th March, 2014 to the sad news – Fennec Okyere shot dead. Later, it came out clear that he was actually stabbed to death by unknown assailants at his residence in Spintex – a suburb in Accra.

In the course of their investigations, the police arrested Bull Dog, Manager of dancehall artists, Shatta Wale, on Thursday, 15th March, 2014 in connection with the murder of Fennec. However, after 2 court hearings on the case, the police service have since not made any new findings on the case to the public – despite the clarion call on them to do so.

In an exclusive interview with PRO of Ghana Criminal Investigation Department, ASP Joseph Darkwah, to find out where their investigations have reached on Fennec’s case, he was evasive in his responses. “Well you know, it is not everything we disclose to the public on our activities.

“Exactly where we have gotten to, I can’t give that out. It’s like a doctor examining a patient – you don’t just put out report. When we are through with investigations, we shall make our findings public – whatever that is in it, will be made known but for now that we are still on investigation, I can’t give information until we are done.”

Contrary to the general sentiments which seek to suggest that the police are not working on the case or have perhaps closed docket on it, ASP Darkwah assured that they are assiduously working on the case. “We are seriously working on the case. I can tell you that we have advanced in our investigation with more findings. We have really advanced but we cannot put that out until we are through with our investigation.”

Alleged Killer of Fennec Okyere-Bull Dog Goes Totally Silent – Whose Injunction Is That? – Court? Family/Friends? Or His Conscience?

Ghana woke up on Thursday, 13th March, 2014 only to be banged in the face with the sad news that, manager of award winning musician, Kwaw Kesse, Fennec Okyere, was found dead in his house on the Spintex Road – his body was found in a pool of blood.

Though several reports indicated that he was shot dead, later, spokesperson for the deceased’s family, Madam Ursula Ekuful, confirmed that Fennec was not shot but rather, stabbed to death – hence, his body found in a pool of blood.

Whilst the family of Fennec Okyere, media players and the general public were crying foul – admonishing the police service to clump down on the killers, the police was at work, and the police apprehended manager of self acclaimed King of Dancehall, Shatta Wale, named Nana Asiamah Hanson aka Bull Dog.

The case was opened on 2nd June, 2014 and according to reports after the hearing, the prosecution pleaded with the court to allow them has access to the defendant – Bull Dog’s phone but the defence counsel raised objection – so the court directed the prosecution to serve the court with enough reason why the court should grant their request.

Before the arrest of Bull Dog and his release from police custody, he was very vocal in media circles – as a permanent critic on ETV’s ‘Talk Showbiz’ every Tuesday evening and PLUZZ 89.9 FM’s Sunday programme ‘Flex on Pluzz.’

It therefore came as a surprise to all entertainment players when the police, in making charges against Bull Dog, said “the suspect went hiding and was missing on all entertainment programmes on radio and on television.” In fact friends of Bull Dog called the police’s bluff!

Currently or after the first court hearing, Bull Dog has been totally silent in media and showbiz circles. He no longer speaks as a panelist on ETV’s ‘Talk Showbiz’ every Tuesday evening and PLUZZ 89.9 FM’s Sunday programme ‘Flex on Pluzz.’

Today, it’s as though there is no body called Bull Dog at all in Ghana’s showbiz industry! There are even no write ups about him or his artiste – Shatta Wale.

Meanwhile, Bull Dog is one of the deep thinkers and honest art panelists Ghana’s showbiz can boast of. So are we to lose his splendid and erudite opinions and submissions simply because he’s been alleged to have killed someone?

Is it the court that has instructed him to be silent – ‘don’t talk on radio or television?’ Does the court even have such powers to do so? Even if they have or do, in my layman’s understanding, that contravenes one of the provisions of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution – thus, ‘Freedom of Speech.’

Fennec Okyere’s Failure to Report Threatening Calls to the Police is Making Investigation into His Death Difficult

Though late Fennec Okyere, when alive, once alleged he received threatening text messages which he suspected came from the quarters of MUSIGA, another revelation has it that he never reported the case to the police; hence, making investigation into his death difficult.

Below is how NEWS ONE reported the said story – threatening text messages/calls to Fennec Okyere:

“What started as a mere quarrel between the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) and Mad Time Entertainment on who has legal right to organize the Ghana Music Week (GMW) Festival, is getting out of hand as Fennec Okyere reports he has started receiving death threats.

“I have received calls from people who threaten me with death and ask me why I am worrying Obour over this Ghana Music Week thing and whether I do not know this is big money business,” Fennec, told NEWS ONE and said he was on his way to get the police involved.

“I know how to go about taking care of my security; and I am not taking chances at all. I have to report the threats to the police because we are all in this industry and I hear a lot of things,” Fennec added.”

After the above publication, Fennec Okyere, when interviewed, revealed to Kumasi based presenter called NDJ LIVE. The interview which the aforementioned presenter published is below – headlined: “I’m Not Scared of Faceless Threats” – Fennec Okyere.”

“Speaking on the action taken after the alleged threats, he disclosed he was not scared of “faceless threats” and was therefore going about his normal activities since there was no trouble between his camp and the Musicians Union of Ghana.

“As far as I am concerned, there is no issue between Madtime Music and MUSIGA since they have opted to call their event GMW Festival. So long as they do not explain GMW as Ghana Music Week, there is no legal tussle. They could even explain GMW as Grabbing Money Week. I therefore see no reason for a threat.” he said.

In a video footage/audio GhanaCelebrities.Com received from female outspoken presenter of Amansan TV also known as A TV, Sokoo Hemaa, the PRO of the Greater Accra Regional Police Service, Mr. Freeman Tettey revealed to her that Fennec Okyere did not report his (Fennec) alleged threatening calls to the police.

According to Mr. Tettey, if Fennec had reported earlier, that report could have served as a blueprint for the police service to rely on now to trace the unknown assailants who killed him.

Kwaw Kese and Fennec

At a time when people are loosely point death fingers at MUSIGA and its leaders, Kwaw Kese has come out to say his sudden departed manager-Fennec Okyere was more than a manager to him…

With years passing, Kwaw Kesse and Fennec grew out of the working relationship they started with, and became more like brothers, joining hands for both the clean and dirty works.

We cannot even imagine how the Kwaw Kese is taking Fennec’s death, considering the fact that few weeks ago, Fennec was on radio talking about the fact he had received several death threats.

Asked on radio if he had brought the attention of the police to the numerous death threats (text messages and phone calls), Fennec said he was not treating the threats with any extensive seriousness. After all, if someone is capable of killing you why will the person hide behind technology to be making threats?
