The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has elected Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf as its chairperson, making her the first female head of state to hold the position.
President Sirleaf was elected at the 49th ECOWAS heads of state meeting in Senegal over the weekend.
