Dylan Roof, the white supremacist who shot up a black church in Charleston, South Carolina in 2015 and killed nine people, has been sentenced to death after the conclusion of his trial.

Roof, 22, invaded the Emmanuel Methodist Church in Charleston on June 17, 2015, opening fire on congregants during a prayer service. He killed nine people, including the church’s senior pastor and South Carolina state senator, Clementa C. Pinkley.

The racist white shooter who killed nine people in an attack on a South Carolina church has pleaded not guilty to all 33 charges against him.

Appearing in court for the first time, U.S. Magistrate Judge Bristow Marchant asked Roof for his plea. His lawyer said they planned to plead guilty, but would not do so until they know whether the prosecution would push for the death penalty or not.
