Christians and religious people on the whole are pretty funny about how they approach obeying their holy book. Since the Bible is a big book with many demands that nobody can realistically hope to fulfil all, everyone chooses which part to accept and which to ignore.
So for instance, many people ignore the injunction against pre-marital s*x, and many others keep to it. Many refuse to stone gays or their daughters to death for adultery as the Old Testament proscribes because that’s the ‘old covenant’, but would then say you have to follow the Ten Commandments.
