A person who commits a crime ought to be punished—and this is why we have laws in Ghana to deal with criminals; ranging from thieves to ‘homosexuals’.
I don’t remember the last time I heard that any thief has been subjected to mob justice anywhere in Europe—even if so, not in an inhumane and degrading manner like a video of a young Ghanaian woman which is circulating around shows…
I would have found a way to publish the video online so that whoever would be reading this would be able to catch the extent of degrading and the violation of human dignity this woman faced—and her crime was, she attempted to steal a common mobile phone. But publishing the video will add to the shame—balancing this with you seeing it, I think the former should win.
Of course mobile phones may mean a world to some people and stealing may be something they will never condone in a society but anyone who truly stands against the crime of stealing must also have a conscience to stand against the crime of inhumane and degrading treatment of any person—including a thief or a homosexual.
In the shocking video being circulated around, a young Ghanaian woman of about 25 years old is cornered at a ‘market’—and every cloth of hers taken off including her last bit of dignity-panty.
She is seen sitting on the floor with a crowd gathered around her, including Ghanaian men and women (speaking loud and clear twi) beating the hell out of her—in a way if done to a goat, it would definitely amount to animal cruelty.
This young woman who was wearing fine braids is asked by another woman to escape by ‘walking nekkied’ while the crowd follows her—beating her from ‘back and front’. The same woman who asked her to get up and walk is heard screaming; ‘would you ever attempt to steal a ‘whatsapp’ phone again?’
