One of the men responsible for keeping Ghanaians in a state of religious dependency so he can continue to milk money off us in his church, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, now claims Ghanaians are too religious and that is hampering our prospects for development.
One of the problems with Ghana which seriously hampers our development is that we are too invested in religion and believe most solutions to our problems would be found from God rather than from practical application of logic, reason and common sense.
The head pastor of the Lighthouse Chapel, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, has assured his congregation that he and the church would fight with all their might to resist the legalization of homose*xuality in Ghana.
Homos*xuality is not even an issue right now but as a pastor looking to get your bigoted congregation to cheer you on, going after gays is definitely the right thing to do.
Religion and culture are such big components of each other, a lot of the time they seep into each other seamlessly, and some ideas get co-opted into the other.
Which is why it’s quite funny to me when as Africans, we bring our own prejudices to the white man’s religion we have co-opted; and then proceed to think we know the religion much better than the people who made it their mission to spread it around the world- whether through persuasion or by the sword.
Dag Heward-Mills, the presiding bishop of Lighthouse Chapel International says, preaching about prosperity is NONSENSE.
According to him: “Today Christians are into happiness preaching – everything to make you happy – Christ did not come to make us happy – Christ came to save us from our sins – and to put happiness and prosperity as the reason for Christianity is a false religion – that is not Christianity. Let us not follow comfort – to be a good Christian you cannot be comfortable – to be a good Christian you cannot always try to be happy – this prosperity, money gospel is a nonsense gospel that is not why Jesus came to this world…”
I don’t know if he chose to preach this message because it was Easter – where every sin is washed away by drinking Ribena (blood of Jesus) and eating bread (body of Jesus) so he’s repented or…but whatever the reason for this preaching – coming from a man of God is a surprise. His message may be true but he forgot some salient points which make his message ‘nonsense’ to the ‘pastoral and Christendom’:
