The Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has beaten back competition from four others to be crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2018.

Salah beat Sadio Made, Mehdi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Ghana’s own Thomas Partey to defend the crown he won for the first time last year.

Leicester City’s mazy Algerian winger, Riyadh Mahrez, has picked up the award for the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2016.
Mahrez beat out competition from the reigning champion, Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as Ghana and West Ham United forward Andre Ayew ‘Dede’.
