I am not going to write a long article on this—at least not today.
To be frank, the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) has become like that adorable beautiful child everyone wanted to touch but somehow along the lines contracted a contagious disease—with people suddenly running away from it or unmoved by the child’s presence.
AMAA started on a good note—with amazing buzz, and arguably became that particular Awards scheme most on the continent’s movie enthusiasts and industry persons looked forward to.
It has not suffered a credibility crisis (nothing extensively damaging that I know of) but surely, it’s deep down there when it comes to adequate buzz, interest and publicity.
The once poster boy of Movie Awards in Africa has lost its buzz—no one really seems to care anymore when you mention AMAA.
The organizers need to re-strategize or else…
Anyway, over the weekend, the 2015 AMAA nominees were announced at an event in Los Angeles, USA and Ghana’s Ama Ampofo scored a nomination on the back of Shirley Frimpong Manso’s Devil in the Detail. ‘Love or Something Like That’ also received a nomination.
