In case you were one of the critics of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards VGMA – thus, calling on the board to review the nomination list, be informed now that it won’t happen; because, the board has given answers to all queries raised.
The only category in this year’s VGMA nomination list which has come under serious censorship is the New Artiste of the Year category. Art polymaths are of the opinion that, all the artistes nominated for that category do not qualify for nomination.
Addressing the New Artiste category brouhaha which has Joey B, Kumi Guitar and Akwaboah as nominees, Mrs. Ayoade made it clear that Kumi Guitar did a song for producer Sugar Tone in 2012 but released his own song in 2013 and that qualified him as a new artiste.
She also explained that Akwaboah wrote songs for an artiste which won him the Best Songwriter in 2012. However he is now out with his own music which makes him a new artiste, just as Joey B who officially released his Strawberry Ginger in 2013.
GhanaCelebrities.Com got in touch with Nii Ayitey Hammond who is the Chairman of the VGMA Board and asked him if the board will still review the nomination list – in the face of the above explanations from Mrs. Ayoade.
“As I speak with you, the board has not decided to review the nomination list; so that is what we stand by” Mr. Hammond said. GhanaCelebrities.Com askedMr. Hammond how the board regarded all the facts, evidence or proves that some critics of the award presented to the board.
“So far none of the evidence brought before the board is strong enough to make us disqualify any artiste or song in the nomination list. All that they have said or presented represents opinions; their opinions for that matter. The board does not deal with opinions but facts. Real facts! Any person who presents real facts shall be considered by the board.” Mr. Hammond said.
