John Dumelo has described the so-called invasion of Ghanaians actors in Nollywood as a ‘give and take’ affair. According to Dumelo, he doesn’t see the reason why Nigerians are crying about Ghanaians acting in Nollywood since most of the top Nigerian Actors ‘troop’ to Ghana as well. He simply described the situation as ‘they come here and we go there’.
In an interview with peacefmonline.com, he also reacted to the rape allegation leveled against him by nigeriafilms.com. Check out the article below…

To be frank, it has been so annoying over the last few months with so many Nigerian Actors, Actresses and Producers complaining about the influx of Ghanaian movie stars into Nollywood. They have been advising and admonishing themselves to stop using Ghanaian stars in Nollywood as they see these Ghanaian stars are parasites and fully dependant on Nollywood.
Do not get me wrong, I am a champion of, inter alia, globalization, free trade and putting forces together between Ghana and Nigeria to build a strong movie industries. But it is disgusting and makes you feel “shit” as a jingoistic Ghanaian when you read or heard about such unfounded comments from Nigerian Stars. I vividly remember one saying, “These Ghanaians are taken over our industry and to worsen it all, they have started even featuring in the Yoruba movies which we tend to keep to our self”.
Now here is what we got for them as things are getting better in our home too. You started it and we will help finish it for you. The last year saw a great success in the Ghanaian movie industry, Nigerians might have produced in quantity than Ghanaians , but in terms of quality, we were able to battled them head to head. Do I have to prove it by refering you to the African Movie Academy Awards nominations and winnings?.
On their constant out cry to stop the incursion of Ghanaian stars into their industry, One of the best and first movie production houses to bring Nigerians to Ghana, Venus Movies have stated categorically that, they have stopped and would not be using Nigerian movie stars anymore. Whether it is a good move or a bad one, I am down with them as the adage goes, Tit for Tat is never a sin. Read and listen to the audio below…
Ladies, imagine the man you love, whom you are legally married to and with a child to show for it, tells you that the day you agreed to marry him was the day you went wrong. Have you been faced with the question why various talented musicians and movie stars from Ghana are unable to achieve their world success dreams? Undoubtedly, most of our stars have the talent to get them there but their international success is curtailed by their “bootleg” managers and prs’.
After years of dealing with celebrities in several arts, one thing they all have in common is managers and Prs’. It is sometimes shocking that after one “shady” movie or a good for nothing song to a person’s name, the first thing that comes into such an individual’s mind is to acquire a manager or PR.

I am not ashamed to say I love Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry and its Ghanaian contemporary, Gollywood. In these days, where all we see of ourselves as Africans on Western television is the same old, stereotypical depiction of the African as conflict-ridden, corrupt and malnourished–at least Nollywood and Gollywood– show another side of Africa.
They give us the other story, as Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie puts it. Nollywood and Gollywood’s portrayal of the African story is by no means perfect. It is problematic at times. But the canvas on which they tell the African story is broader than what we see on Western television. At their best – Nollywood and Gollywood- attempt to tell our stories in ways that are familiar to us, and in ways we can relate to.
The weekend is almost here and we kicking it with Queen’s Pride this time. Sorry we could not bring you the Weekend Entertainment Flava last week. All the same, grab some juice or your favourite drink and chill in as you watch Queen’s Pride…
The world of Africa Movies have seen many faces and talents (especially in Nollywood and Gollywood). We all have our favourite actors and actresses. We run to buy a movie when we see our favourite star on the cover. Sometimes, we will not watch a particular movie even if a gun is put to our head; because that untalented and inept actress or actor is seen on the cover.
