Weekly Discussion, Let’s Get Talking: What Do You Hate Most About African Movies?

blank

I can surely pull a long list of the various things I detest in African movies especially those of Ghanaian origin. I guess you have your list of things that annoy and irritate your “bum” any time you sit to watch Ghanaian Movies.

One of my friends said; watching a Ghanaian movie nowadays is like a long prison sentence. It never ends with its repetitive punishments.

What puts me off is the usual “bootleg” British/America accent. No matter how hard these Actors and Actresses try with their fake accents, it comes out like a Chinese married to a German living in Libya and trying to speak English.

It is even worse if the Nigerians try it. The thick Nigerian English accent with traces of Yoruba and Igbo forced to sound like American puts me off completely.

Muslims Angry With Agya Koo

blank
Agya Koo

Mallam Issah, a popular movie in which Adu Kofi, also called Agya koo, posed as a Muslim cleric has incurred the displeasure of the Moslem community in the Kumasi metropolis.

The United Form for Islamic Affairs, a movement for all Muslims (Al-sunna Waljamah), Tijaniyya, Council of Zongo Elders, etc), has demanded the withdrawal of this and others like Rakiya, Asante Kramo and Agya Koo Makaranta as well as related advertisement from the market.

This followed an emergency meeting on Tuesday organized by the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) with the Film Producers Association of Ghana and the United Forum for Islamic Affairs at which the film makers apologized to Moslem community and agreed to have the movies withdrawn. The timely intervention of REGSEC averted a possible mayhem in the metropolis as some irate moslem youth had planned to attack the film maker for ridiculing island religion in the films.

Motivational Message Of The Week: Our Minds Define Us & Control Our Success

blank

The Great Gautama Buddha once recognized the foundation on which our well being and success as Human Beings rest and simplified the complex nature of our ups and downs in life by saying “We are what we think”. A stretch of this will mean, we become what we want to become in our minds.

He might have plagiarised this saying from ancient teachings and scriptures but that should not be of any relevance to this post. What we need to know is not the source of this simple principle of fetching success but the power behind our own minds.

It might sound ludicrous to be told that, most of our failures in life are as a result of our own thinking. Yes, you’re the devil bewitching you own success and progress in life.

So I believe in the whole forever thing. Marriage may be not be all sweetness and light because in truth, most partners experience downtimes in their relationships. Still, I think the vows of marriage are to keep a couple loving each other for better of worse. While a woman should be free to leave an abuser or a cheat as the case may be.

Readers’ Mail: Muntari Weds Menaye, Essien Jilted Nadia Buari, Dela & Sahada Are Still Lost In The Game! My Reflection On Ghanaian Wags + Photos…

blank

Hello Chris,

I was excited to read your write-up on the upcoming posh wedding between Sulley Muntari and Menaye Donkor and have decided to send in this with the hope that you will publish it.

I will start my mail by saying a BIG congrats to Menaye for being able to keep his man up to today. Others hard theirs and they could not handle and groom them so they lost.

I stand to be corrected on this; Sulley Muntari met Menaye Donkor at the 2006 World Cup hosted in Germany.

The two have been together for more than 4 years and as we are all aware of the short life span of celebrity relationships, they have beaten gravity and they are making it to the altar in few days. (This is an achievement)

When I read about the wedding, I asked myself two questions; what will be going through the head or what will be the expression on the face of Ms Shada Ibrahim (Sulley Muntari’s ex) if she reads about the marriage?
