Weekly Discussions: Who Should Pay For The First Date, He Or She?

blank

‘What a man can do, a woman can do it better’ was once a theme of the “All women Beijing Conference”…. I believe in gender equality and I know almost every woman believes in that as well.

As much as women prefer to rock shoulders with men, certain times they acknowledge without contempt that men are “superior” especially when money has to be paid. The word “superior” is used loosely in my sentence.

This weeks discussion centers around First Dates. Who do you think should pay for first dates? I have always thought that when the man asks for a date, he is supposed to do the paying. Same way when a woman asks a man for a date, she is supposed to pay.

A 31 Year Old Virgin, A Fantasy Or A Reality?

blank

In the minds of many men, the issue of virginity is overshadowed by cynicism. I am a prototype of such men since I am very skeptical about “virgin women”. Do not get me wrong; even though I am skeptical about this issue, I am very realistic in the face of my skepticism. I am therefore not threading the line that, there aren’t adult virgin women out there.

Many men including my very close friends have been disappointed by girlfriends who have thrown the virgin dust into their eyes, making them wait for years with the trust that, their girlfriends were virgins. Eventually when the day came, these girls were far from virgins.

blank

When I posted a write up asking which of the “Black Star Players Sucks The Most” based on our kick out by Uruguay, I got various lashes from readers on the grounds that I am being ungrateful.  Sometimes, it is disheartening and pathetic to see some Ghanaians celebrating mediocrity as I do not find anything extraordinary with the performance of the black stars, especially against Uruguay, a match which we could and should have won.

However, It is refreshing to know that, I am not the only Ghanaian with this feeling and mindset, Ghanaian social commentator and prominent Journalist, Mr Kwesi Pratt Jnr is on the same wavelength with me.  Listen to the audio below as Mr Pratt pours out the truth which most Ghanaians are failing to see….

Revele Films is a production company based in Ghana. They specialize in film production and television programmes and are behind the two hit mini series ‘Home Sweet Home’ and ‘Hotel St. James’.Those two series were the toast of Ghanaian TV when it was broadcasted on our screens.

It has a number of lessons and topical issues which were addressed under the directorship of Emmanuel Appea Jnr.

The production house known for its knack for quality, tried their hands on producing movies as well. They produced ‘Fire to Fire’, which featured local comedian Agya Koo. The movie earned them the tag ‘too known’. A name they acquired from their competitors when actually they were not competing with anybody according to John Apea.

He said “I don’t care about your car; I want to buy an aeroplane. We are not competing with you; we are competing with outside”. Also to come from the stables of Revele was ‘Agyapadie’.

Yvonne Okoro In ‘The Game’: Win Or Lose….

blank

When someone does something extraordinary for the first time, people think it’s a fluke. Yes doubt is created in their minds until the person comes back to build upon the first performance.

In this new movie ‘The Game’, Yvonne Okoro played a role of Brandy Osei, a desperate talkative who falls in love with a man, Ronny Lawson (John Dumelo) she’s not set her eyes on.

Answering question on why she accepted to play such a role, Yvonne told GhanaCelebrities.com “I think the script was different. Most of the movies I have done, I think am always a house wife or some other roles even though they were leading roles”.

“So I thought, me being young and the person I am, I talk a lot so I said okay let me accept this and because of the director and the other cast”.

Age & Marriage, Should Society Be A Determining Factor?

blank

Have you noticed that when you reach a certain age the clock in your head starts to give hints about marriage? Is this clock biological or sometimes is it also society (like your family or friends) that ticks in your head?  If anybody had told me marriage is about age when growing up, then I think I would have waited a little bit before hitting 20 and above. Unfortunately this is not how this commitment appears to function. I am not the type that is scared of ageing.

I don’t know about any of you, but I think ageing makes one wiser and confident. The song says ‘all you need is love’, and I couldn’t agree more. Some people probably started making wedding plans before hitting 20. For instance thoughts of what their wedding is going to be like, where and what age they ‘must’ settle down. I have come across many people who always relate marriage to age and got me thinking…what is this about? Who makes these rules anyway?

What happened to ‘I am in love and want to spend the rest of my life with the one I want to be the mother or father of my children. Instead of ‘I need to settle down because I am ageing’?

I try to stay away from such people to avoid the pressure of settling down because of age or for comfort. Marriage as I have understood is a union between two individuals depending on the culture. Perhaps I should get a reality check but I am sure some will agree with me that marriage and having a family is about taking a responsibility for another individual. It seems like some of us do forget this and rush into marriage for the reason of ageing. There is absolutely nothing wrong in getting married in my point of view. I still endure in the age of romance and would settle for the sake of passion, understanding and caring.

SriBuO Release for the week – Asaase Aban – Nana Yaa

blank
Asaase Aban

This week, we are bringing you the sophomore album from the Hot Boyz – Asaase Aban. Nana Yaa is a Hiplife album in the truest sense of the word. It is very common to see albums of “Hiplife” genre that are rife with beats and instrumentals devoid of almost any traditional Ghanaian beats. This album is different. On every single track, you can distinctly hear the “Ghanaianess” of the sounds. When you couple that with the local dialect raps of the artistes (Ga, Twi etc.) it makes for a very unique listen that is a departure from what you would traditionally find on the Ghanaian music market.

Love & Relationship: Real Men Like Real Hair – Why Weaves Don’t Work…

Naomi Campbell
Naomi Campbell

If you pay attention to the images portrayed in magazines and mainstream movies, most will have you believe that all men are stuck on the idea of their women having long hair. Whether it’s Beyoncé or Tamika up the block, achieving that look usually means getting a weave, tracks, wig, or whatever other follicle trickery beauticians use to fake the funk. That’s not to say that a black woman can’t have naturally long hair without assistance, but more times than not that sister with the ponytail is actually rocking a phony tail.

I Wanted To Change GoalKeeper Kingson Before The Penalty Shoot-Out-Ghana’s Coach

blank

Ghana head coach Milovan Rajevac has revealed he thought of taking off Richard Kingson before the penalty shoot-out against Uruguay on Friday night.

The West Africans were knocked out in the quarterfinals after losing 4-2 on penalties to Uruguay at the Soccer City Stadium after playing to a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Stephen Ahorlu warmed up briefly during extra time and some Ghanaian journalists explained to KickOff.com that he could have fared better in the shoot-out than Kingson.

“Everything happened so fast. I thought about changing the goalkeeper but I didn’t. I was thinking of someone who could do well for us in the penalty shoot-out,” Rajevac revealed.

BET’s 2010 Best Actor, Idris Elba “Repping” Ghana To The Fullest…

blank
Essence Music Festival in New Orleans Day 1

When GhanaCelebrities.Com spotlighted on Idris Elba with a follow up article on him winning 2010 BET’s  Best Actor Award, I had a lot of readers slamming it on me on the grounds that, Idris ELba does not see himself as a Ghanaian and as such there is no reason for us to keep talking about him here. Some went far as to say, I am forcing him unto them . (Forcing a man who does not recognise himself as a Ghanaian to become  one of us…)
