I Dedicate AMVCA Best Actress Award To Shirley Frimpong Manso – Jackie Appiah

Jackie-Appiah-Wins-Best-Actress-191

“I’m honoured, I must confess. I’m excited as well. I want to say a very big thank you to God Almighty for making this [winning Best Actress nod at AMVCA] possible because my category was a top category. I want to thank my fans who took time off their busy schedule to vote for me. Their votes didn’t go to waste and I give God all the glory for that and I’m grateful”.

The above words came out from the excited Jackie Appiah to GhanaCelebrities.Com shortly after her announcement as the Best Actress on the African Continent at the inaugural AfricaMagic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) which took place at the Eko Hotel in Lagos, Nigeria last Saturday.

The popular Ghanaian actress made history as she became the first Ghanaian actress to win one of the biggest awards on the night, therefore engraving her name in the history books of African Cinema and the awards.

She saw off challenge from the hot favourites; Nollywood’s Genevieve Nnaji and Funke Akindele as well as Bubu Mazibuko and Nolwazi Shange with her exceptional performance in ‘The Perfect Picture’, a Shirley Frimpong-Manso movie.

The Ghanaian’s triumph came as a surprise to many.  A disappointed Uti Nkwachukwu who was rooting for his compatriot, Genevieve Nnaji couldn’t help himself when the Ghanaian was mentioned as the winner. Prior to the announcement, he shouted Genevieve’s name but the shocker came when Jackie Appiah was announced at the winner.

The Nigerian actor, TV presenter, model, MC and winner of Big Brother Africa All Star who was seated close to this reporter shouted “What the f**k” to show his displeasure. But just when the Ghanaian actress climbed the podium to collect her award, Uti showed remorse by saying that, all the nominees in the category deserves to win.

Jackie Appiah, co-won the 6th African Movie Academy Awards (AMAAs) Best Actress in 2010 with the same movie with the director of the movie picking the Best Director nod.

Having been named as the best actress on the continent from votes from committed fans all over Africa comes with a full responsibility. Pressure will now be mounted on the actress in terms of movie roles. How will the actress relate to the looming pressures from fans?. Is she just going to accept any movie roles?

“No! This shows that I must be on my toes. [Snapping her fingers in the process] Everything I do must be on point. I must try harder. It’s not going to be only me. It will make my other colleagues to be on their feet and work harder too”.

Videos + Photos: A Wonderful Night Out With Star Actress Jackie Appiah In London

blank
Last Thursday, I got the chance to hang out with Star Actress Jackie Appiah in London (from 8pm to 1:30am). The over  5 hours hangout with one of Africa’s Best Actress was exceptionally interesting.
Contrary to popular allegation, this was my first time of meeting Jackie Appiah and also the first time I have had a full real push and pull conversation with her.
Though we have in the past exchanged text and BB messages, the only out of the ordinary communication I have had with her until last Thursday was a voice note she once sent. I think what she wanted to say then was too long for the usual typing and as many people do, she also went for the voice option.
From the above, you can quickly deduct that even though I have met several celebrities, meeting Jackie Appiah meant a lot to me, my blog-GhanaCelebrities.Com and my ‘status’ as a celebrity blogger.
And oh yeah, we did not just meet, we had long chit chats over dinner and then proceeded to hang out at her Posh Central London Hilton Hotel where I managed to get answers to some interesting questions.
How the Night Started
We arranged that I pick her up at 7pm from her hotel for dinner but then I got stuck in traffic for an hour. I hate being late but I had no option than to keep beautiful Jackie Appiah waiting. I am not sure what was going through her mind when she had to wait on me for an hour after I had mentioned to her not to be late the previous day.

Okyeame Kwame Denies Saying 'Azonto Killed My Music', He Says He Was Misquoted!

blank
One of Ghana’s finest rappers Okyeame Kwame who doubles as the C.E.O. of one of the youngest label in Ghana, One Mic Entertainment has denied ever saying that Azonto has killed his music.
The Rap Doctor as he is warmly called expressed shock at news that he said “Azonto has killed my music”. The rapper was quoted as saying that the recent dance turned music genre ‘azonto’ has killed his ‘Faithful’ and ‘Sika’ tunes.
The report further stated that whiles other artistes smiled to the bank during the festive season, the rapper was left to mourn because of his inability to break the ‘azonto’ craze with his songs which are on slow pace. He was also quoted as saying that his song ‘Sika’, he released before Christmas was thrown into the bin by Ghanaians because of the proliferation of ‘azonto’.
Kwame has denied the above, saying it was totally imaginary of the writer and misrepresentation of what he said. According to him, this is the conversation he had with a presenter in December.
“In December a presenter called me and asked me series of questions in connection with MUSIGA and the festivities. He asked me how my album is doing and I told him One Mic [Entertainment] made a mistake of releasing ‘Sika’ one week before Christmas because people are in festive mood, people do not want to go and listen to pensive and melancholic songs like ‘Sika’, they want to party, so common sense suggests that they listen to ‘azonto’ so they can do the current dance.”

Kofi Adjorlolo Takes The Film Producers Associations Of Ghana & The Ghana Actors Guild To The Cleaners. He Says “I’m Pissed & Peeved”!

blank
Kofi Adjorlolo at the launch of Ghana Movie Awards 2011

Though his infamous ‘ban’ by the Film Producers Associations of Ghana [FIPAG] has been lifted, talented and creative Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo is not a happy person at all.

The versatile actor was among three movie stars banned for fouling the directives of the Film Producers Association. The actor still finds the ‘supposed’ reason for his ban laughable.

I was banned for two years though that didn’t actually stopped me from doing what I know how to do best. When I was banned, I kept asking myself what have I done and they said I was trying to protect the Nigerians working in Ghana – so I should not have even talked on their behave which was very ridiculous though.”

“But all of a sudden, they started taking action against me. I didn’t retort. I didn’t talk back. They went on and on and later came back to say, they have lifted the ban after we had sat down to talk.” He said surprisingly.

GC Exclusive: Roselyn Ngissah Talks About Her Body Size, ‘Somewhere In Africa’, Upcoming Projects, Working With Other Ghanaian Actors & More…

Roselyn Ngissah
Roselyn Ngissah

‘Somewhere In Africa’ premieres on Saturday, 30th July, 2011 at the National Theatre,Accra.

As we prepare to see one of the best movies to have come out ofGhana, GhanaCelebrities.Com caught up with the 2010 Ghana Movie Awards’ Best Actress-Roselyn Ngissah who plays a central role in the movie for a chit chat.

Roselyn is undoubted a very good actress with a lot of potential to hit the bigger screens. We spoke about ‘Somewhere In Africa’, her body size, working with other stars and then Roselyn had a little but golden advice for all the young girls who are aspiring to get into the game.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What Is Your Role In ‘Somewhere In Africa’ About?

I’m the second in command to the commander himself, Mumbasa who is played by Majid Michel. In my role I take orders from Mumbasa. It’s quite a challenging role as I was terrorizing and killing innocent people not for any reason but because I was ordered to do it.

GhanaCelebrities.Com: What Did You Find Challenging About This Role?

Playing a character that was so militant was very challenging; also this was the first of this kind of character that I’ve ever acted. I’m always playing the naughty girl, the funny girl, professional girl such as a Dr or Lawyer.

In this role I had to play a soldier which was quite physically demanding and meant I had to do a lot of running around. The role really required me to be strong and fit. When I first got the role I have to admit I was taken aback by what would be involved.

I was thinking about my body size and how I look, I was thinking I’m not just any soldier but second in command. Initially I wanted to hit the gym but the director explained that he’d given me a challenging role to do and knows I am more than capable, so I had no other choice but to get into it.

Also when I arrived on set I wasn’t even aware that I would have to change my accent. I had already rehearsed and got myself into character and once I got on set I was told that they had decided to change the accent and this is how they want me to speak.

Exclusive: Aluta Of ‘Things We Do For Love’ Fame Bounces Back! Says There Is Time For Every Body + He Has 7 Children Now!

Aluta Of Things We Do For Love Fame
Aluta Of Things We Do For Love Fame

I don’t know about you but for me, I still remember vividly the nostalgic feeling when the popular television weekly serialized ‘Things We Do For Love’ started, when the production house went on recess and when they came back to continue from where they stopped. Several years after, I’m still proud today to say I was an avid viewer of the TV series.

If there was any program in Ghana at the time that people loved on [as if they had any better option] GBC/GTV, the station of the nation, surely it would be because of ‘Things We Do For Love’.

The above assertion might not be entirely true, since it’s based on hunch. But it was one of the programs that made people stay glued to their television sets on Sundays before the major news to watch the entertaining, educative and informative series.

I still recollect clearly those years when most if not every student made sure their homework was done as early as possible to enable them watch the program without any hassle from their parents.

I also reckon it was one of the few programs on television at that time that made many children respect their parents and listened to whatever they said attentively in other for them to have the peace of mind to watch the program when it commences.

‘Things We Do For Love’ was a 30 minutes weekly series shown on Ghana Television. The direction of the series was under the tutelage of Ivan Quashigah and produced by Ad Vantage Productions. It starred the Majid Michels, the Jackie Appiahs, the Adjetey Anangs amongst others.

Several years later, the Ghana Movie Industry is benefitting immensely from these talents who once graced and made television exciting to watch in Ghana. Though majority of the cast are not active now, Shaker [Majid Michel], Enyonam [Jackie Appiah], Pusher [Adjetey Anang], Max [Vincent McCauley] are still rocking our screens.

Also from the same series but missing on the television scenes are Tsatsu, Killer [Abeiku Acquah], Dede [Alice Schreyer], Marcia [Sena Tsikata], BB [David Bossman], Zinabu [Adeline Adjokatcher], Ophebea [Yolanda] and others.

However, one of the casts who played Jackie Appiah’s brother and son of the contentious Mr. Blagogee, ‘Aluta’ has resurfaced from his hideout. Known in real life as Zimran Clottey, Aluta tried his luck on several projects, one of which was to become a musician. He also hosted a couple of shows in TV.
