Actress/TV personality – Joselyn Dumas – as part of her social responsibilities has taken upon herself to embark on a campaign dubbed ‘Xcholera Campaign’ to help fight cholera in the country.
Already, Joselyn Dumas has visited places like the Okaishie and Kaneshie markets to educate traders on the need to keep their environments clean. Yesterday (29th October, 2014), Miss Dumas and her team took the campaign to the Nima market to sensitize the traders.
In her submission, she emphasised on the need to regularly wash our hands with soap, eat hot foods, and keep our surroundings free from filth. These, according to her, are simple practices we can embark on to get rid of the deadly disease.
Miss Ghana 2013 ambassador, Nadia Ntanu, has graced a special inauguration ceremony of a child protection centre at the Catholic-run institute, Don Bosco.
Ntanu was part of a core of specially invited persons for the inauguration of the first-ever Child Protection Centre (CPC) in Ghana under the auspices of the Don-Bossco Technical and Vocational Training Institute spearheaded by the Salesians of Don Bosco under the West Africa Province
The facility, a state of the art building, is two-storey each, with sick bay and a cafeteria.
The centre among other things is to help rehabilitate neglected and vulnerable street children as well as provide psychological, social and academic training.
The people of Kaneshie yesterday (October 1, 2014) had their fair share of education on cholera when Ghanaian actress and TV personality – Joselyn Dumas – stormed the Kaneshie market with her ongoing ‘Xcholera Campaign’.
The campaign, which aims at increasing education and awareness on the outbreak of the deadly disease, was received very well by the market folks from beginning to the end.
Miss Dumas, at the occasion, addressed quite a number of significant issues that could result in contracting cholera. Notwithstanding, she as well gave practical advice on various ways to prevent this deadly disease.
Speaking to the media, Miss Dumas said; “I am overwhelmed by the response and turnout here. The people here are very discerning and lovely. Some have taken instant action by cleaning their selling spots after hearing the message. Not only that, they have pledged to continue doing so. I pray they do just as they have said.”
The Miss Ghana Foundation has donated items worth thousands of Ghana cedis to the Orthopedic Training Centre at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
The donation forms part of series of charity activities for the year.
Items including noodles, cereals and beverages among others were donated to the facility.
The exercise was also in fulfillment of Nadia Ntanu, the reigning Miss Ghana Brand Ambassador’s resolve to continue from where her predecessor’s left off by strengthening the Foundation’s goals of ensuring such laudable projects are sustainable.

Okyeame Kwame Foundation together with MDS Lancet Laboratories, Theobald Hepatitis B Foundation, Roche and Ridge Hospital RPD on Saturday, offered free hepatitis B screening and vaccination to hundreds of people at James Town – Mantse Abgona in Accra.
More than 500 people benefitted from the charity event. Three hundred, out of the 500 beneficiaries, will go for the additional two injections at the Adabraka Ridge hospital, free of charge, to complete the entire course.
The Rapper observed that the youth turned out for the screening this year and expressed appreciation for the turnout. “I am really glad to see most of the young people come for the screening. This is to say that the youth is giving attention to health and this also indicates that we are moving in the right direction as a people,” says Okyeame Kwame.
He also told journalists that the charity screening and vaccination project is aimed at educating people about the disease and also helping curb it.
For his part, the president of the Theobald Hepatitis B Foundation, Mr. Theobald Owusu Ansah, called on the government to give much attention to Hepatitis B.
African dancehall king Samini extend a hand of help to less privileged and needy children at an abandoned orphanage school in Accra on African Union day-May 25.
As a prelude to the launch of his child foundation, Ghana’s Dancehall artiste Samini together with Kaakie, Noble Nketia and the whole Higrade Family on AU day visited a school at Awoshie in Accra to dine with the kids and donate some money for the management of the school.
As part of his social responsibility, Ghana’s Dancehall artiste, Samini, on Saturday partied with the underprivileged children at the Enough Grace Complex at Awoshie.
The gesture was to put smiles on the faces of the children and also ease any form hardship at the school. It was also part of activities to mark as a prelude to the launch of his foundation.
Speaking at the ceremony, the founder of the school Mariam Adeibi expressed her happiness for Samini’s gesture.
“Some of the kids haven’t see Samini before, they’ve never been on television before, they’ve never had a party like this to mingle with the privileged. This is the first time, so I think it will go a long way to help them.”
On Saturday 17th May 2014, the GUBA Foundation will be hosting its fourth autism awareness seminar at the Resource for London Centre, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA.
The seminar which is free to attend, promises a platform for Service Providers such as Child behaviour and development specialists, to impart knowledge and offer support to autistic families. Attendees also get the opportunity to communicate, share experiences and learn practical solutions to everyday problems in regards to autism.
Previous seminars have contributed positively towards raising awareness about the prevalence of autism within the African community; in turn, helped to alleviate several misconceptions about autism. It has also brought autistic families together, offered financial and emotional support for struggling families.
Autism affects one in every 100 people in the UK. Over 100,000 people living with this condition come from Black or Ethnic Minority (BME) communities. Despite this substantial figure, people from the BME community are typically diagnosed later than their Caucasian counterparts. One of the core aims of this upcoming seminar is to educate the BME community to help eradicate the stigma and misconceptions about autism; as it often hinders efforts to manage autistic people effectively within the community.
Some of Ghana’s known faces have signed up to the Protect the Goal campaign of the United Nations’ body for HIV/AIDS, UNAIDS.
At a ceremony held in Accra on Tuesday, the known faces including Sandra Ankobiah, Nana Aba Anamoah, Ama K. Abebrese, Elikem Kumordzi and Edem among a host of others pledged their commitment to the theme of the campaign, which seeks among other things to sustain the gains being made against the spread of the epidemic in Ghana.
Taking different turns, they also recorded short video messages, calling on the millions who look up to them to adhere to safe sex, as it was a sure way of achieving targets of zero new HIV infections.
They also called for zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths.
The reigning Miss Ghana, Giuseppina Nana Akua Baafi, together with a team from the Miss Ghana Foundation, have donated items worth thousands of cedis to the Tamale Children’s Home.
Made on Valentine’s Day, it was the Foundation’s second visit in a year to the institution, which is one of the many beneficiaries of its charity works, in the Northern Region.
“This is our second time of coming here, and it goes to underscore the commitment the Miss Ghana foundation has towards you,” Miss Baafi said.
Togolese international football star-Emmanuel Adebayor, who has made Ghana his home and has embraced several industry persons as brothers, has once again showed that, he is an exceptional celebrity with a good heart.
To the surprise and joy of many, Adebayor is reported to have agreed to sponsor 3 children who have been attacked by a strange skin disease, which doctors at Jirapa, in the Upper West region, have failed to treat. The current medical bill run into several thousands of dollars and it is expected to increase as treatment continues.
Apart from the commendations coming from those who’ve heard of Adebayor’s move to save these children, many are of the opinion that, our celebrities should adopt Adebayor’s kind heart—and do more to help the poor.

Mr. Adebayor, The Chronicle gathered, has already mandated his agent, Fred Nuamah, the Executive Director of Ghana Movies Award Foundation, to liaise with all persons and organizations trying to assist in treating the children.
In a telephone conversation from his base in the United Kingdom, Adebayor said he got to know about the plight of the children through a lady, Faustina Dakora, late last year. He subsequently asked Fred to contact the children through the lady, for further discussion.
Sandra Ankobiah Donates To Tema SOS Children’s Village
Television Presenter, and Lawyer, Sandra Ankobiah has donated items worth thousands of Ghana cedi to the SOS Children’s village in Tema.
An act of kindness, the donation was made on Christmas day.
Items ranging from beverages, confectionaries and toiletries were donated to the facility. She also donated an undisclosed amount of money to the institution.
Ankobiah, who was accompanied to the facility by her parents and little sister, said the exercise was in fulfilment of her Christian duties, and also in extending a helping hand to the needy and less privileged.
“In the spirit of giving this season, I and my family decided to come here and spend Christmas day with you, by donating these items.
“Small as they are, we hope they will be of good use to the children here.”
Director of the facility, Isaac Ackon, who received the items on behalf of the Children, said his outfit was thankful for the support, and would ensure they are put to good use.
The reigning Miss Ghana, Giuseppina Nana Akua Baafi on December 25, spent Christmas day with the Countryside Orphanage at Awutu-Bawjuase in the Central Region.
It was her second visit in months, after donating food items worth thousands of cedi on her birthday earlier this year.
And to make good her promise of going back, she chose Christmas day to spend it with the adorable children of the facility.
Miss Baafi and a team from the Miss Ghana Foundation, led by Inna Maryam Patty donated several items from Finatrade and Multipac Limited Ghana as well as presented a cheque to the facility.
The team spent a greater part of the day with the children, serving them with a healthy meal, after which they engaged them in a counseling session.
Authorities at the establishment couldn’t hide their excitement at the gesture, and were full of praise for the queen whom they said, “is a living example of a selfless young lady’’ and the Miss Ghana Foundation with its ‘’vision of or positively transforming lives,”

As part of Jackie Appiah’s donations to the Ebenezer Hills Junior Secondary School, she paid for the WAEC registration fees of the school’s 163 final year pupils.
In order to uplift their recreation facilities of the school, Jackie Appiah bought Table Tennis board, 36 Football Jerseys and created a football field for the school.
It was not only about recreational facilities; Jackie fixed ceiling fans for all the classrooms to enhance the classroom learning experience too. And then, placed 5 teachers from the school on a scholarship to IPMC for a year—so they can learn ICT and return to teach the children.
After the donations, the headmistress of the school- Mrs Esther Obeng who couldn’t hold her joy thanked Jackie Appiah for the kind gesture. The excited school children joined hands to sing ‘Happy Birthday’ for the actress and wished her well…

Money raised from UK donations is helping the GUBA Foundation improve the lives of two Ghanaian children with autism.
The London charity donated £1,650 in October to the Autism Awareness Training Centre in Accra, Ghana. The money will be used to fund the education of two autistic youngsters at the centre for six months.
GUBA Foundation’s founder and ceo Dentaa Amoateng and head of PR George Ameyaw presented the cash to centre owner Mrs Quaynor in October and used the time to get to know the children a little better.
After touring the centre, the children welcomed the pair with a ‘singing through sign’ performance.
“The kids were a joy to watch and were so excited to see us,” said George. “It showed in their enthusiasm to perform what they had learnt for us.”
But much more needs to be achieved to support autistic children at the centre and dispel firmly held beliefs in Ghana about the condition. The centre is in need of a sensory room, outdoor pool and outdoor toys, particularly soft toys all aimed at helping the children’s sensory development skills.
“We would love to provide longer-term support for these children so that we can assist them for a whole year and institute a scholarship scheme for others like them in the centre,” George added.
