Resilience…

Resilience
Resilience

Setbacks, disappointments, mistakes and failures are part of life. Each and every one of us will go through these at some point in our lives (unless you’re superman/woman). Most of the time, there’s not much we can do to control the challenges we come up against even though we try to prevent some inevitable hiccups.

Some people are very (or naturally) resilient in the face of adversity and others are not. We all have different ways of dealing with disappointments and setbacks plus the ‘timeframe’ we take to heal. How we react to or deal with our failures and disappointments is what really counts

I know people who bounce through life, enduring setbacks and never allow their setbacks to shake them and what I noticed with these people is their upbringing and the environment in which they grew up coupled with surviving past difficult times influenced their resilience. They are ‘hardies’ and are very open to change and interpret any stressful experience as a normal part of life. They approach life with optimism and find meaning even in negative experiences.

Unfortunately, some people don’t have the art of bouncing back and standing on their feet. They need to go through healing process and cleaning up by talking and more talking (without any action) and expect things to fall into place for them or for someone else to clean their mess for them. They find it very difficult to dust themselves off after a fall – even if they caused the fall themselves.

President Mahama Dissolves The Board Of NACOB + Creates New Ministry Of Power

President-John Mahama
President-John Mahama

It’s increasingly looking like the President is on a warpath to defuse most of the crises his government has saddled the people of Ghana with.

Yesterday he took the largely ineffectual step of ‘firing’ the head of ECG, and he’s now taking more steps aimed at handling another issue that is denting Ghana’s image hard on the international scene.

I am talking about the case of the woman with thousand aliases, Angel for short, who was arrested at London’s Heathrow carrying an obscene amount of cocaine on her. The state agencies handling of the entire saga leaves a lot to be desired.

The Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) has been the worst culprits in this musical chairs of who screwed up most. After failing to detect the cocaine in Ghana (willingly or unwillingly, nobody knows), they then came out to say they allowed her to leave because the operation was a joint one with London authorities.

Of course, that ridiculous assertion was immediately shot down by the Brits, with a statement from the UK High Commission refuting any prior knowledge of anyone travelling with cocaine, whilst saying if that was the case they would ensure the person was arrested here.

Celebs Out & About: Yvonne Nelson, Juliet Ibrahim, Menaye Donkor, Stephen Appiah & Delay

Yvonne Nelson

Yvonne Nelson says she just visited the dentist and as such, check out her teeth—with that big smile in place just to show her fans what she got done inside her mouth. We will advise she does not do this in a hotel bathrooms because they are never clean as they seem.

While Juliet Ibrahim was showing her nice figure in a leggings, Delay comfortably packed her boobies in a top—and got a whole lot of attention from only men. She may be thinking people were excited to see as she calls them her fans but we think, they were checking out the twins who were being suffocated.

Why was she not smart to realize it was only men paying attention?

Check below for photos of Stephen Appiah, Menaye Donkor and others—out and about.

The Wonderful Ghanaian CHOP BAR Experience | Have You Tried It?

Ghana Chop Bar
Ghana Chop Bar

The chop bar business has been with us for as long as I can remember. The name chop bar coined from the words chop and bar. Chop is a local slang for the words ‘to eat’ and bar meaning an area that is meant for gathering. It used to serve as a place where bachelors could go to and they will be assured of a good home cooked meal.

Most chop bars have a bar stocked with local alcoholic drinks and a few foreign ones for the well to do. Even though the place is usually patronized by men, some women also buy from these places and the stares they get from people is enough to make you not to buy again. An encounter my friend had in one of these places made her vow not to buy food from these places again.

With the inception of restaurants across the length and breadth of this country, it seems that the chop bar has been regulated to the background. With most Ghanaians copying blindly and eating burgers, pizzas and chips to the detriment of their health and our economy and our national identity—chop bars have become victims. Most chop bars folded up due to low patronage but others have stood the test of time and are enjoying tremendous patronage. There have been subsequent upgrade in these chop bars—their operations, mode of cooking, their interior decorations, etc.

One remarkable thing about these chop bars is their services: these people know about better human relation than the so called restaurants. The euphoria in these places is warm and inviting and there’s the feeling of home and a sense of belonging. Until my recent visit to the Western Region precisely Takoradi, I always thought chop bars were a little behind in terms of edifice but that perception changed after I saw the “God is Love” chop bar.

This chop bar occupied a three storey building with magnificent decorations with that usual warm ambience that is noticeable in all chop bars. I was so amazed that I kept asking myself why the place was not a restaurant but then again it’s all good.
