Black Satellites Beat Panama To Comfortably Top World Cup Group

satceleb

Ghana’s Black Satellites reached the world cup second round with a routine 1-0 win over Panama that enabled them to top Group B with seven points after three games.

The Black Satellites were back in action in New Zealand earlier this morning with a more or less perfunctory game against Panama. Ghana’s four points prior to the game and the competition rules made it virtually impossible for Ghana to be kicked out, even with a loss.

But Sellas Tetteh, wanting to top the group, went in with a strong line-up anyway, unchanged from Tuesday’s victory over Argentina.

The game was a balanced affair, not too much exciting but both sides acquitted themselves well. The Satellites continued to show their improvement after the lethargic opening game against Austria.

The game looked destined for a stalemate with only ten minutes to go, but substitute Emmanuel Boateng had other ideas. Taking the ball on the break, he turned his opposing defender inside out, before firing a well placed shot from the edge of the box into the net.

The Black Stars are back in action next weekend when they take on Mauritius in a qualification game for the 2017 Cup of African Nations.

Domiciled in a group with Mozambique, Rwanda, and next week’s opponents, the Stars would be looking for a perfect start in a group most people would expect them to top hands down.

Deputy skipper Dede Ayew would miss the qualifier, as he’s nursing an injury. Also missing would be Kwadwo Asamoah, who despite his return from injury has not merited a call up from Grant yet.

Bernard Mensah gets his debut call up, whilst winger Albert Adomah makes his return to the Black Stars.

In preparation for the game, Ghana would take on Togo in a friendly game on Monday, June 8.

Here’s the 23 man squad for Ghana’s upcoming qualifier against Mauritius on June 14.

Overall he made some good points, but then Sepp Blatter had to go and resign and ruin everything.

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi is outraged by calls by some foreign football chiefs about Africa’s continued support of Sepp Blatter. The votes of most African football bosses, and those in Asia as well, went to Blatter in the last vote even though he was under suspicion of corruption; and that rankled some people in Europe and America.

But Kwesi Nyantakyi, speaking to the BBC, said it was insulting to be asked why they voted for to soon to be ex FIFA boss.

“It’s very irritating for someone to ask me why I voted for Blatter – why shouldn’t I? I think it’s a case of a lack of respect for Africans.
