Nigerian Senators Throw Out A Woman Equality Bill Because Of the Bible & Sharia

blank

While the rest of the world is on speed chase to development on the back of empowering women, most African states continue to hold their women in bondage as oppressed group.
The seed to development in every nation is to empower women; grant women the needed cushion and equal rights and you will find a complete change of things—their children will be educated, well fed and nurtured and they will greatness out the little available to them.
Yesterday, Nigerian lawmakers voted against a gender and equal opportunities bill citing the fact that the bill conflicts with the Bible and Sharia Law.
According to QZ; “The bill, which did not pass a second reading, was aimed at bridging the gap between the rights of men and women in Nigeria. It also sought to end questionable and unpleasant stereotypical practices that drive discrimination based on gender.
While the bill garnered support from some lawmakers, male and female, it ultimately failed to progress on the senate floor as a majority voted against it. Before voting, various senators who opposed the bill, spoke about the incompatibility of the bill with religious laws and beliefs.”

Without even mentioning the country where this took place, one can correctly deduct from the headline a limited number of countries where such ridiculousness would be executed.
Despite the extensive progressive discourse surrounding free speech with built in pillars such as opinions and speculations, a group of countries continue to lynch and assault the foundation that holds together freedom of expression in a way that could easily pass for parody.
“An Egyptian blogger has been sentenced to three years in jail with hard labour for claiming on national television 30 per cent of wives would cheat on their husbands if they had the chance,” reports MailOnline.
The website adds that, the blogger was “sentenced under a ‘spreading false news’ charge, the court in Egypt Taymour el-Sobki’s comments would harm public peace and damage the public interest.”
The blogger-El-Sobki faced a backlash from other TV talk show hosts and civilians who filed complaints to public prosecutors accusing him of insulting Egyptian women.

Kofi Ofori Writes: Mensa Otabil is A Kweku Ananse Story Teller Setting Back A Generation of Ghanaians

blank

Mensa Otabil
Mensa Otabil

I am very much appalled by Mensa Otabil’s sermon 13th of March 2016 calling for his congregation to disregard evolution and the Big Bang Theory.
My problem with this is based on two premises; using his influence to misinform and potentially harm a whole generation of up-and-coming scientists (and non-scientists), and also talking about something he has no business delving into, much less render advice.
Mensa Otabil is a very powerful man who by virtue of his position – founder and leader of the International Central Gospel Church [ICGC] – and actions – building one of the very first private universities in Ghana – has earned the right to be trusted and respected by Ghanaians, Christians, other faithfuls and people who adhere to no religions at all.
So it is disheartening to hear him go on this ‘crusade’ against science purely because it conflicts with his religion or his point of view. He has no qualification in the field he chooses to talk about on the day.
In private confines, that is all well and good. But the moment such ‘knowledge’ is thrown out there, it becomes worrying, as he wields enormous influence. And that is part of the bigger problem.

Moesha Boduong

Moesha Boduong is everything but natural—yet she claims everything on her is natural, sort of constantly insulting our intelligence.
For many, the character Moesha Boduong is a human fraud; who conveniently takes off her clothing on social media so to entice low-self esteemed women to buy her waist trainers—when in fact, her figure was not achieved through the usage of what she is selling.
Since Moesha is known for taking off her cloth—she recently covered up in some photos and it’s become a big social media news. It’s shocking but that’s her reality.
Let’s add that, she doesn’t look bad covered up—so why does she think she needs to always show her nakedness to stay relevant within the Ghanaian social media landscape?
