The Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 elections, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has offered a heartfelt apology to members of the party for letting them down by losing the 2024 elections.
Bawumia, speaking to party supporters in London, admitted that their performance in office was not optimal, which played a key role in the party losing the 2024 elections.
The former Vice President assured supporters that they recognise their failures and intend to work on them to ensure they can recapture power and deliver for them.
“There’s no doubt that we didn’t get everything right. NPP did a lot of work, there’s no doubt about it but we did not get everything right. We got quite a few things wrong,” Bawumia said. “On my own behalf and on behalf of the party and the government, I apologise to all of you for not getting the things right that we should have gotten.”
Bawumia expressed the hope that they will be given another opportunity to fix their mistakes and take the party to another level.

“If by the Grace of God we have another opportunity, I believe that we would get many things right because we’ve learned the lessons of where we’re going,” he added.
A Fierce Primary campaign
The former Vice President won the party’s flagbearership race to represent the NPP in the 2024 elections, but then suffered a historic collapse as the NPP lost the Presidential elections in a landslide and failed to amass even a third of the seats in Ghana’s 276-seat legislature.
Bawumia faces a tough race to convince party delegates that he’s the right person to choose for the 2028 election despite his historic loss, with his woes deepened by his rival, Kennedy Agyapong, who has already launched his bid to become the party’s next flagbearer.
This has forced Bawumia into an early campaign as he faces the fight of his life against the super popular Agyapong, who is a party financier and a former Member of Parliament representing the Assin Central constituency.
