Cars, Houses Submerged as Lakeside Estate Floods Following Heavy Downpour – Videos Emerge Online

Homes within the affluent Accra suburb, Lakeside Estate, were flooded following the heavy downpour on Sunday, May 18th, 2025.

Several videos on social media show the jaw-dropping aftereffects of the rain, which has left many houses in the vicinity flooded in a style reminiscent of the Akosombo Dam spillage-induced flooding that swept towns in the Volta Region a year or so ago.

According to Citi 97.3 FM in Accra, the floods hit Lakeside Room 6 in the Adentan Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. Residents who had never experienced flooding were stunned by the occurrence, which took over their homes, rooms, roads, and vehicles of residents in the affluent area.

Many shocked residents shared videos of the incidents on their social media handles, expressing astonishment at the turn of events. Poor urban planning, which plagues much of Accra, has been blamed for the incident.

According to Citi FM, residents attribute the flooding to an overflowed gutter meant to channel water from Lakeside to Nanakrom that was unable to carry out its critical function.

Kwadwo Sheldon faces flooding

Ghanaian content creator and commentator Kwadwo Sheldon took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal he was a victim of the unexpected flooding that hit Accra.

Sharing videos of his area completely underwater, Sheldon revealed he had just returned from a trip to Kwahu to meet those conditions.

“I came back from Kwahu to see this.. my home is flooded… bro crazy scenes,” he said.

The Kwadwo Sheldon studios boss vowed that he would take on the estates and make sure they pay for what they’re putting him through.

“This is on the estate and they are about to know what time is it in court 🤝” he added.

Sheldon’s predicament sparked varied reactions, with some on social media expressing their sympathy for him over the state of his home, while others accused him of only caring about this issue due to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) currently being in office.
