U.S.-based Ghanaian political commentator, Kevin Ekow Taylor, exposed a further piece of corruption involving the Chief Justice, Gertrude Torkonoo, who is currently the subject of proceedings to remove her from office.
In a post shared to X (formerly Twitter), Taylor exposed a deal in which a company formed by two of the Chief Justices’ daughters, Seyram and Edem Torkornoo, was granted a GHS 456,456 contract via restrictive tendering.
Taylor described the move as the epitome of corruption and proof of the CJ’s corruption, which justifies her attempted removal.
“An explosive expose by Loud Silence Media has blown the lid off a dirty secret: the Chief Justice awarded a lucrative contract worth GHS 456,456 to her own daughters, Seyram Torkornoo and Edem Torkornoo, using a shady company, Design Three Seven,” Taylor wrote on X. “The woman who swore an oath to uphold justice is now neck deep in corruption, using her powerful office to enrich her family,”
Taylor revealed further details of the alleged corruption, noting that the contract was given out via ‘restrictive tendering’, to ensure only the Chief Justice’s daughters bid for the contract. He called out other public officials complicit in the deal, including a Public Procurement Authority official, Austin Evans Kanyoke, who signed off on the deal, and the former Judicial Secretary, Justice Cynthia Pamela Addo, who reportedly shielded the deal from public scrutiny.
“By awarding a government contract to her daughters, she has not only committed a moral crime but a constitutional offense,” Taylor continued. “Chief Justice Torkornoo’s misconduct is not just a minor lapse. It is a calculated, deliberate abuse of power. This is corruption, pure and simple.”

Taylor said the exposed deal necessitates the Chief Justice’s suspension and eventual removal.
Currently, Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Torkornoo has been suspended by the President, following a determination that a prima facie case exists against her following three different petitions presented to the President.
The President subsequently set up a five-member committee to probe the petition’s allegations in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 constitution. The Committee, which started proceedings on Thursday, May 15, is expected to present its findings to the President following the conclusion of its work, after which the President will take action based on the Committee’s recommendations.
