Today, almost all radio and television stations and online portals are talking about Ghanaian musician, King Promise, thumbs up to TGMA for making this possible.

One can count out a million relevance that the TGMA has brought into the Ghanaian entertainment fraternity, however, speaking on a Twitter space, dancehall enigma, Shatta Wale has trashed the TGMA.

The “On God” hitmaker has said that the TGMA, especially the most talked about “Artiste Of The Year” award adds no value to the career of the musician.

Shatta Wale claims it is high time Ghanaian musicians knew that following awards would rather impede their progress.

Using Nigerian musicians as an example, Shatta Wale stated that if Nigerian musicians could see farther, it is not only because they sat on the shoulders of giants but because they focus on more relevant things than awards.

“Right now, our yardstick is Nigeria and not America. So if we check Nigerian artistes Wey dem sef we no dey hear dem making noise about Artiste of The Year. But they are moving in a particular direction. It means they are not so much concentrated on the awards”, Shatta Wale said.

Shatta noted that the year he emerged the Artiste Of The Year in the then VGMA did not add any value to his life or career as a musician, stating that it has always been his effort that puts him out there.

“As Adey won that year, what Edo for me. Bro, I was already working hard. I was already working on endorsement deals”, Shatta Wale noted.

Proving that the TGMA is useless, Shatta Wale said that “I am a hardworking guy so I understand my business already. So, sometimes, if you are serious about your business, you can give yourself an award as an Artiste of the Year rather than feeling like if they endorse or validate you that is when you can get all those international deals”.

He used his collaboration with Beyonce to buttress his claims that the TGMA adds no value to the musicians’ career, stating that “Bro ano get artiste of the year for many years but along the line, i have been able to build the future with the highest female musician in the world”.
