NDC Wants to Stop Me From Becoming NPP Chairman Because They Know I’ll Defeat Them in 2028 – Wontumi

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has revealed that the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is attempting to destroy his businesses because he is poised to lead the NPP to victory in the 2028 elections.

Speaking on his television station, Wontumi TV, Chairman Wontumi, who has signalled his plans to run for the party’s National Chairman position in 2026, said the ruling party fears him, which is why he is currently facing attempts to destroy him.

In recent months, Chairman Wontumi’s mining firm, Akonta Mining, which was accused of being granted concessions in forest reserves to mine gold in contravention of environmental regulations during the NPP’s rule, has faced numerous challenges following the change in government.

The NDC government revoked Akonta Mining’s licence, with the company accused of engaging in illegal mining (galamsey) in protected forest reserves.

Chairman Wontumi described those allegations as false and said he was being targeted due to his role as an NPP bigwig.

Wontumi said his recent announcement of running for NPP Chairman has sown fear into the NDC, who are aware he can easily lead the NPP to victory in the next elections.

“Wontumi is the people’s Chairman….The NDC are scared of me, if you look at all the allegations against me, they’re borne out of fear,” he said. “This is because the NDC knows that based on their governance, if the NPP gets its act together, we will easily win in 2028.”

Chairman Wontumi added that he sees no other explanation for the attacks on him because he never entered government to be accused of corruption or embezzling taxpayer money.

“I’ve never worked in government; I never served on a public agency board; no Minister can say they ever gave me a job,” Wontumi continued. “So how can they be closing my accounts?”

He said all these trials and tribulations are simply paving the way for him to lead the NPP to victory once he is elected as the party’s next national chairman.
