A Presidential staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah, has rubbished the New Patriotic Party (NPP’s) attacks on Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Sammy Gyamfi, as nonsensical and trivial.
In an interview on New Day on TV3, Jantuah, who is a former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), said the attacks reflect an abundance of free time on the hands of NPP politicians.
Sammy Gyamfi has been embroiled in a scandal following a video of him gifting $800 to preacher Nana Agradaa after the two met in town.
The video went viral and sparked a sustained backlash, leading to calls for Gyamfi to step down from his position.
The NPP, in reaction to the scandal, called for Gyamfi to be investigated for corruption.
Reacting to their calls, Nana Yaa Jantuah said the only reason the NPP is making those calls is because they have too much free time on their hands. She said they are able to constantly hold press conferences because the NDC government is not being proactive in holding them accountable for their corrupt practices during their time in office.
Addressing the NPP National organiser, Nana Boakye (Nana B), she said, “You have done things at National Service, there was a lot of corruption on your watch, and you can go and do press conference against Sammy Gyamfi? Has Sammy Gyamfi stolen anybody’s money?”
Nana Yaa Jantuah said in 2017 that when the NPP took over power from the NDC, they harassed numerous former NDC officials by having the security agencies chase them all day. She called on President Mahama to pay them back in their own coin and hold them accountable.
“Those people are lucky, if they were going to EOCO in the morning, CID in the evening, and BNI in the night, they will not be sitting down doing press conferences,” Jantuah said.
