They noted that it wouldn’t make sense if the incumbent government says that Sammy Gyamfi’s actions is due to his ignorance of the law.
They claim the Chief Justice has made it clear that nobody, regardless of their status would be pardoned for a crime all in the name of “Ignorance”.
The opposition party insisted that Sammy Gyamfi is fully aware that his action was a violation of the code of conduct of the foreign exchange and currency act but still did it for reasons best known to him.
“Even the Chief Justice has noted that ignorance of the law is no excuse. Sammy Gyamfi is fully aware of the legal implications of his actions and must be held accountable”, they said.
They are therefore calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi, saying that “We are calling for the immediate suspension of Sammy Gyamfi as acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board”.
Meanwhile, Sammy Gyamfi has publicly rendered an unqualified apology to all and sundry for his action.
Sammy Gyamfi took to his official social media handles to state that “I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private, and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable”.
He added that “I must say that, I understand the uproar that this gesture has generated, particularly from comrades who are sincerely hurt by same. To all such comrades, I AM SINCERELY SORRY for this unfortunate act of indiscretion. I respect and appreciate your views.”
