Ghanaian gospel singer Empress Gifty Adorye called out pharmaceutical company Ernest Chemist over its use of her late mother in a commercial.
In a video sighted by GhanaCelebrities.com on TikTok, Empress Gifty opened fire on the company for violating her late mother, Evangelist Agnes Aba Annan, aka Agaga’s, intellectual property rights.
Empress Gifty revealed that she had found out that the company had used her mother on a billboard without her family’s express permission.
Gifty asked for the company to come and do the right thing because she has been through a lot with her mother’s sickness, death, and subsequent burial. and burying her.
“The woman on your billboard is dead, yet no one called me [to ask for permission],” Empress Gifty fumed.
Empress noted that several months have passed since her mother’s death and burial so the company has no excuse not to have informed her.
She said she has no need of their money, but the proper thing must be done, and they should have sought her permission, considering their long-standing relationship with ‘Agaga’.

“Empress doesn’t need your money. But it’s only proper that someone you’ve worked with, someone whose image you use on your billboards nationwide – how can the person die and you use her image in another billboard?” she fired.
Empress Gifty further opined that during her mother’s illness, she purchased all needed medication, IVs, etc from Ernest Chemist. She revealed that she spent thousands of cedis on drugs from the company, and at a point, the drugstore attendant was shocked at the quantity of drugs she was buying and asked her if all that medication was meant for one person.
The ‘Watch Me’ hitmaker, who bagged an award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) over the weekend, called for Ernest Chemist to come and see her and show her the contract that allows them to abuse her mother’s image even after her death.
“Put some respect on my mother’s name… do the right thing,” Empress Gifty fired.
Empress Gifty’s mother, a celebrated actress who appeared in numerous commercials throughout her career, died in December 2024 after battling illness. Her funeral was held in Tema in January 2025.
