A nursing student from Jinijini in the Brekum West District of the Bono Region tragically died after a decision to spend the night at her boyfriend’s house went awry.
Gifty Kyere, a 28-year-old final-year student of the Sunyani Nursing and Midwifery Training College, died in the early hours of Friday, May 9, 2025, after spending the night with her boyfriend, 23-year-old Edmond Ayomah.
Kyere reportedly informed her father, a pastor identified as Pastor Jonathan Kyere, that she was headed back to school on Thursday after coming home to collect her school fees and a few other items.
Tragically, instead of returning, she decided to spend the night with her boyfriend before returning.
During the night, Kyere complained of abdominal pains, witnesses told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), and Ayomah transported her to the Jinijini clinic, where he left her and bolted.
Kyere reportedly died in the early hours of May 9th. Preliminary investigations led authorities to commence a manhunt for her boyfriend, who remains at large.
Pastor Jonathan Kyere, speaking on his daughter’s death, said he was shocked about the incident and has called for justice to be served.

Gifty’s body has been deposited at the Berekum Holy Family Hospital pending autopsy.

According to online reports, Gifty’s boyfriend was pressuring her to get rid of a pregnancy, which might have contributed to her predicament.
Her boyfriend reportedly told friends she suffered an asthma attack, but initial investigations reveal otherwise. He remains on the run.
Social media users expressed frustration over the tragic incident, noting that at her age she should not have dated such a young and likely aimless man.
