Rockstone speaks
Following the bout, the rap legend spoke up to explain the motive for his actions.
The bout, held at the Bukom Boxing arena, was a Global World Championship Exhibition Bout.
Rockstone said the exhibition fight was to bring attention to the Ghanaian MMA scene. He revealed that he has been involved in taekwondo and martial arts since he was a child and has been in that world even longer than he has been in music.
Rockstone said, “At my age, to be able to stand here and go toe-to-toe with my [younger] brother..I think we’ve done well and deserve a round of applause. I want you to understand that this was an exhibition…it wasn’t really [a competitive fight]. This man I cannot fight him, but I needed to show [up] and lend my celebrity to the cause.”
The bout was reportedly patronised by several high profile dignitaries, including Kimathi Rawlings. Videos from the event went viral, achieving their goal of raising awareness about the mixed martial arts community in Ghana.
