The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has withdrawn from the party’s unity thank-you tour and launched his campaign for the 2028 Presidency.
Agyapong, in a statement, declared that his presence in the unity tour is unneeded because the party has made it clear where it stands in regard to his confrontation with Abronye DC.
He also cited a recent attack on one of his supporters, who was stabbed in Kumasi.
Addressing the media on Wednesday, April 30, Agyapong said the actions towards him and his supporters make it clear that they are not wanted; therefore, he prefers to withdraw from the tour.
He added that he is fully prepared to contest the 2028 elections, and everyone should be ready for him.
“I want everybody to know that I’m going to contest, so they should be ready… nobody can tell me to back off. I will not back off,” he said.
He added that Bawumia can now continue his campaign in the guise of a thank-you tour.
Thank-you Tour
Former Vice President and NPP 2024 Presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, commenced his thank-you tour last week and invited other Presidential candidates to join him to present a unified front, arguing that only a United NPP can win the 2028 general elections.
Kennedy Agyapong joined the tour and appeared in Berekum on Monday, April 28, when the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Abronye DC, spoke and fired ‘shots’ at Agyapong.
Agyapong did not hold back when it was his turn to speak, openly admonishing Abronye.
He said certain people in the party talk as if they own the party, yet they contribute nothing financially.
“Some people talk as if they are men. They are not men but women. When it comes to money, they cannot take part. They have to go and beg, yet they talk as if the whole world is for them,” Agyapong said. He angrily ended his speech by noting that poor people even feel emboldened to talk, how much more a wealthy person like himself.
“Who born dog?” Agyapong fired to conclude his rant.
