Empress Gifty Under Fire Over Dag Heward-Mills Segment on United Showbiz

Ghanaian gospel singer and media personality Empress Gifty Adorye has come under fire for hosting a conversation on United Showbiz in regard to recent comments Ghanaian man of God, Bishop Dag Heward-Mills, made about not paying church musicians and instrumentalists.

In a viral video, an angry Ghanaian called out the veteran singer for disrespecting a man of God on her show.

The social media user cried out that Empress Gifty erred in bringing a panel to dress down a man of God for comments he made. He said he expected better from a former ‘Osofo Maame’ (Empress was married to a pastor before her first marriage broke down).

The user said no Muslim leader would ever be subjected to such treatment, but Empress felt comfortable doing that to a Christian man of God.

During the Saturday, April 19, edition of United Showbiz on UTV, hosted by Empress Gifty, the panel, including Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, Bullgod, MC Yaa Yeboah, and others, discussed comments passed by the founder and leader of the Lighthouse Chapel that went viral during the previous week.

Heward-Mills, in a viral video, declared that he would not pay any church member to play an instrument in the church. The preacher said people who do things for money are untrustworthy. He said he trains people in his church from childhood to learn the instruments so they can play for free for the church.

“Nobody can come and bully us in church by asking to be paid before singing. It’s nonsense. Here we don’t pay, because you love Jesus. If not, go,” the preacher said.

Heward-Mills’ comment drew sharp criticism from some of the panel, particularly Arnold Baidoo, who took him to task. Quoting scripture, he noted the bible itself supports paying people who carry out some tasks in church.
