The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Vice Presidential candidate for the 2024 elections, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, has threatened to sue comedian OB Amponsah for mocking him during a recent stand-up special.
Speaking to the media during the NPP’s emergency National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held on Wednesday, April 16 at Alisa Hotel, NAPO said he is grateful to OB Amponsah for getting his name out there by talking about him.
The Minister threatened to sue OB Amponsah for his comic routine and said he would make his lawyers write to the comedian to receive a share of the revenue he’s generating by using his name.
“If a comedian is using my name … I’m very happy, I thank him because he’s putting my name out there for free. But I’ll make my lawyers write to him so we share the proceeds, the revenue..” NAPO said.

The former Energy and Education minister under the NPP government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo (2017-2025) also fielded questions on the NEC meeting and the purpose for it.
He said the party is ready to receive the 2024 election report to determine what led to its historic loss in the just-ended elections. NAPO said, based on the report, they will decide how to proceed. He also brushed aside questions about whether he will run for President in 2028.
Ghanaian comedian Amponsah Obarima Akuoko, known professionally as OB Amponsah, went viral in recent days over a clip from a stand-up show in which he mocked the former NPP Vice Presidential candidate.
Amponsah tackled NAPO’s numerous gaffes during the 2024 election campaign, including inflammatory insults against former Presidents, Dr Kwame Nkrumah and Professor John Evans Atta Mills, which reflected negatively on a party campaigning in a hostile climate due to economic difficulties in the country.
Despite NAPO’s threats, Amponsah’s stand-up set was well received on social media, with users praising him for his comic skill.
