Tilly Akua Nipaa, the official public relations officer (PRO) for King Promise’s campaign to win the Artist of the Year award at the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), claims that there is no contest when it comes to King Promise’s popularity as compared to his major rival, King Paluta.
Speaking on Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Review’ show, Tilly pushed back against claims from a representative of King Paluta that the ‘Makoma’ hitmaker garnered more streams than King Promise during the year under review and was the more popular artist.
According to her, those are mere claims that aren’t corroborated by looking at the data. She said, based on all metrics one can look at, King Promise has a bigger reach than King Paluta.
Speaking in Twi, Tilly said, “Let’s start with Spotify. For Spotify numbers, King Promise has 100m streams; after him is King Paluta with 8.79m streams. This means King Promise is far ahead of Paluta, before we get to Stonebwoy who has 6.7m streams.”
Tilly said she then checked monthly streams, which told the same story of King Promise being completely dominant over the other two. She said while people can lie, data never lies.

“I also checked the monthly streams of the artists using Spotify for Artists. I found King Promise’s monthly streams of 2.1 million monthly streams. We are talking with data. Men lie, women lie, data doesn’t lie,” she continued. “Stonebwoy’s monthly streams is 400k monthly streams, and the artist whose reps claim he’s the most popular has the least monthly streams with 163k streams.”
The battle for the TGMA 26 awards is officially ongoing, with the camps of major contenders King Paluta, King Promise and the defending champion, Stonebwoy, all making their case for why they deserve to win the most prestigious Artiste of the Year award. King Promise, who lost out to the ‘Into the Future’ hitmaker last year, has been designated the favourite to win this year’s award.
The TGMA ’26 Awards come off Saturday, May 10, 2025, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
