A Montgomery County firefighter that tragically died at the scene of a house fire after suffering a medical emergency was identified by colleagues as Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins.
Chris Higgins, as he was generally known, suffered a medical emergency at the scene of a House fire in Prince George’s County on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
The Montgomery County Fire & Rescue Company was assisting Prince George’s County firefighters at the scene of the house fire on the 15000 block of Bradford Drive at around 5 p.m. Saturday.
Higgins collapsed during the fire fight, having suffered a medical emergency of undisclosed origin.
Firefighters on scene gave Higgins CPR before transporting him to Adventist HealthCare White Oak Medical Center where he tragically died.

Montogomery County Fire Chief Corey Smedley held back on confirming the firefighter’s identity, citing additional pending family notifications. Montgomer County Fire & Rescue firefighter, Eric Campbell confirmed Higgins’ identity in a tribute post on Instagram.
Queen Anne’s County First Alert also had kind words for the 22-year veteran firefighter, who leaves behind a wife and two kids.
“Please Keep Montgomery County Fire Rescue Service In Your Thoughts & Prayers Tonight As They Deal With Their Line Of Duty Death Of Master Firefighter Christopher Higgins, Who Leaves Behind A Wife & 2 Children. Rest Easy Brother Chris,” the post read, in part.
“I’ve heard it said that God only takes the good ones. Well he certainly took a good one from us today. For those that never got the chance to meet Chris Higgins, you missed out,” firefighter Melvin Thomas also said in tribute.
