In a much-anticipated and historic inauguration ceremony, John Dramani Mahama was sworn in for a second term as president of Ghana yesterday, January 7 2025, marking a historic occasion.
With politicians from all around the continent and beyond in attendance, the event, which took place in Accra, was hailed as a celebration of democracy and stability in Africa.
However, worries over an alleged security breach involving Ibrahim Traoré, the president of Burkina Faso, have cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a day of victory and solidarity. Seth Dough Esq. blasted the security detail in a widely shared social media post for permitting Traoré, who was allegedly armed, to approach President Mahama.
“This was actually an insanely dangerous thing to allow,” Dough stated, adding that leaders like Vice President Bawumia or Nigeria’s President Tinubu would never be granted such leeway. “It’s not about trust. For national security reasons, this was very reckless and shouldn’t be allowed again.”
Some people asked that Mahama’s security team be removed immediately for putting his life at risk.
