A famous NY photographer, Grant Scully, popular in the Hudson Valley Facebook group dedicated to appreciation of the geographic U.S. region, has died.

Scully’s death occurred before the turn of the New Year, on December 30th, 2024, the Hudson Valley group announced in a post on its platform. He was 67.

“We’re deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of Grant Scully. He was an early member of The Hudson Valley group, and by far the group’s most prolific member,” the post from the page read. “His photography set a standard of the kind of images we should strive to capture – ones that truly highlight the beauty of our region. His drive and passion for our place in the world will be missed,”

Scully prolifically captured stunning images of the Valley and shared them far and wide, reflecting his pride in the place. Rockland County also remembered him for his great work projecting the place.

“We are deeply saddened to report the passing of Rockland resident and an extraordinary photographer Grant Scully, 67, of Piermont. Grant’s photos captured the beauty and character of Rockland County and the lower Hudson Valley. He was dedicated to showing the Hudson Valley, we had the honor of sharing many of his photos on this page,” the Rockland Report said in a post.

An obituary of Scully was provided by Hanneman Funeral Home and collected many words of tribute in his honor. Meanwhile, several donation avenues have been set up to help his family in navigating this tough time.
