What Happened to Dmac? Cali Rapper Damian Johnson Dies on New Year’s Day

Rapper Dmac born Damian Johnson, a popular rapper in California affectionately known as the Party Starter, has died on New Years’s Day.

Dmac,’s death was reported via several condolence messages shared on social media on New Year’s Day, January 1 2025.

Friends and fans alike were shocked at the news of the young and vibrant rapper’s death.

“We’re deeply saddened to share the passing of @getitdmac, affectionately known as the “Party Starter” from Fairfield , California. A true Bay Area legend, his hit single Panoramic became an anthem that united us all,” said the Bay area based Hyphy Culture. “DMac’s energy, creativity, and undeniable talent brought joy to countless people, and his legacy will continue to inspire the culture he loved so much,”

More personal messages emerged on Facebook, where many expressed their dismay over the sudden death of Dmac. Rinny Morrow, Dmac’s baby mama, shared a touching tribute, writing: “This is so unfair.. and so unexpected, you’re gonna be missed by so many DamianJohnson Vs you were the light that made every life you touched shine brighter. Genesis and I love you, we miss you deeply and we know we’ll see you again some day,”

What Happened to Dmac?

A viral post by a ‘friend’ of Dmac alleging to know what happened to him sparked an online battle as people clapped back at her for sharing misinformation.

Cyncity Gtz, who has been called a ‘clout chaser’, shared photos of herself and Dmac and a tribute message in which she alleged he died from taking contaminated drugs.

“I’m not ok, I keep losing my friends left and right…this one hit close to home. I can’t believe I’m saying rip to my friend dmac we just celebrated our birthdays. I’m praying for your daughter and give her strength,” she wrote.

She then added: “It’s a bad batch going around stop doing this powder I’ve literaly watched 3 of my friends almost die,”

Her post sparked angry replies from those claiming to know Dmac as they said he neither smoked nor drunk. “DMAC DONT EVEN DRINK OR DO DRUGS! please stop letting these people spread false rumors 🙏🏼 let him rest in peace,” one clapback said.

Dmac born Damian Johnson is a rapper originally from Vallejo, California. He attended Armijo High School and transitioned into a rap career that turned him into a cult hero in the San Francisco Bay Area. Dmac was known for his massively popular album ‘The Panoramic’ which spawned lead single ‘Panoramic’ (featuring Sage the Gemini and Show Banga), the tune that united the Bay Area and provided them with an anthem.
