A Brick Township NJ mother, grandmother and ER nurse, Anne Rasmussen, has died after a drunk driver struck and killed her on Route 70 in a wrong-way crash.

The accident occurred early Friday, December 27th, 2024 on Route 70 near the Lowe’s home improvement store.

Brick Township Police were called to the scene around 5 a.m.in regards to a head-on-collision between a small SUV and a Volkswagen Beetle. A statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office says respondents discovered a Toyota Rav4 and a Beetle in the crash.

The male driver of the Rav4, who has yet to be identified, was reportedly driving under the influence. He was driving eastbound in the westbound lane of Route 70 on the wrong side of the concrete barrier separating the roadway when he crashed into the Beetle.

He survived the crash and was extricated from his vehicle and rushed to hospital where he remains in critical but stable condition. The female driver of the Beetle, meanwhile, was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.
