Carter Halverson, a senior with the South O’Brien Community School District in Iowa is being mourned following his death in a wreck.
Halverson died in a car accident that occurred early Saturday, December 21st, 2024 in Paulina in O’Brien County.
The 18-year-old was driving just after midnight on 500th St., southwest of Paulina, Iowa in a 2023 Chevrolet Malibu when he was involved in a collision.
Preliminary investigations indicate he left the roadway and entered a ditch. Authorities believe he hit a driveway and rolled over at least one.
Halverson, who appeared not to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, was thrown from the car and died on the scene.
The sad news of Halverson’s death was reported by the South O’Brien School District in a letter to families signed by Superintendent, Wade Riley.
“It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that one of our high school students, Carter Halverson, a senior, was killed in a car accident last night,” the message signed by Riley and Denise Phillips, the JH/HS Principal, read. “Our condolences and thoughts go out to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones as they cope with this tremendous loss,”
The Halverson family were also in mourning, with one member sharing a heartfelt message on social media.
“The Halverson (mom) side of our family suffered a great loss last night. Please keep my cousin’s family in your thoughts and prayers. Carter was an amazing young man and his loss will be felt till we see him again. Fly high sweet boy, watch over and comfort your mom, dad, brother, sister, and grandparents,” said Kayla Muselman.
Meanwhile, South O’Brien CSD announced the provision of resources to help students and staff in navigating the tremendous loss.
