The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has emerged ‘victorious’ in seven out of nine disputed parliamentary constituencies following a re-collation of election results mandated by an Accra High Court ruling. The exercise, conducted at the Electoral Commission’s (EC) Greater Accra office, addressed inconsistencies in the initial declarations for constituencies such as Tema Central, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Ahafo Ano South West, and Ahafo Ano North.
Key victories for the NPP included Patrick Boakye-Yiadom in Obuasi East, who retained his seat with 18,558 votes, narrowly defeating the NDC’s Samuel Aboagye, who polled 18,539 votes. In Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh won with 29,640 votes, edging out Fummey Philibert of the NDC, who garnered 29,433 votes. Charles Forson of the NPP secured Tema Central with 18,870 votes, narrowly surpassing Ebi Bright of the NDC, who obtained 18,815 votes.
Other notable wins included Eric Nana Agyemang-Prempeh in Ahafo Ano North, Patrick Yaw Boamah in Okaikwei Central, Elvis Osei Mensah Dapaah in Ahafo Ano South West, and Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah in Techiman South, each defeating their NDC opponents by close margins.
These victories have increased the NPP’s parliamentary seats in the upcoming 9th Parliament of the 4th Republic of Ghana to at least 89.
However, the re-collation exercise has sparked mixed reactions, with some applauding the outcome and others criticizing the EC’s handling of the disputed results. The controversy underscores ongoing concerns about transparency and fairness in Ghana’s electoral process, even as the NPP’s success bolsters their parliamentary strength.
